Creation KiNoob looking for resourcestutorials: editing map

Hi. I'm hopefully going to try to make a mod for myself that alters the main map. In this thread all I'm asking for is any directions to where I might be able to read up and teach myself what I need to know- any links, vids, whatever you think would help.

I'm hoping what I plan to do is possible, but here it is so that if you feel like pointing me in a direction you'll have an idea of where I want to go:

All I want to do is add more trees to the main map of Skyrim. That's it. I just want to make the mountains look something like the Cascade Mountains in the American North West. I'm supposing this would need to be done manually, which is what I'd hope for anyway.

All the mods on this topic out there do nothing but alter existing trees (either making them bigger, "lusher" or better textures). While those mods are great, they are not sufficient for the environment I want to create. I've lived in northern mountainous regions, and unless you are near the end of the latitude where trees can grow, usually you see a blanket of pine trees at the lower altitudes and from the base on up the mountain, hugging them until you reach the timberline, which could be as far as halfway up or more. You don't see five or six trees per acre; you see a thick forest, and then suddenly almost nothing except snow.

So that's what I'm hoping to eventually be able to make. As far as I know, all I need to be able to do is manually add trees to the map for this.

If you would be kind enough to help me, where should I start looking to teach myself how to place trees on the world map?
