Reinstalled Nifskope after reformat HDD

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 3:13 pm

See this http://s779.photobucket.com/albums/yy80/HupOranje/nifskope.jpg.

I reinstalled Nifskope, and now the only meshes with textures are the ones I created myself. If I load any vanilla meshes, they are textureless as you can see in the pic.
I have set the game path manually and automatically, but still nothing. I don't remember if I did something else last time, but it isn't getting the textures from the BSAs any more.

Please help... :(

Mine would not work until I installed outside of \Program Files\... (EG: C:\NifTools\NifSkope)

Once I did that, I hit Autodetect Game Paths and it found Fallout 3.

Now it looks like: http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3339/image1re.jpg, http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/8497/image2qi.jpg

I seem to recall that last time I had more than the few paths that appear in my search setup, like yours. My game is installed in D:\Games\Fallout3 and I run XP, so there shouldn't be any UAC issues at all. My OS does not have UAC. But from seeing your pics, I'll try to manually add all the BSAs and see what happens. God, it worked in an instant last time I installed it.

I'm running XP32, no UAC.

Edit:
You installed both http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/nifskope/1.0.21/nifskope-1.0.21.4886-windows.exe/download and the http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/niflib/0.7.2/niflib-0.7.2-dll.zip/download thingy?

And my Nifskope folder is D:\Utilities\Nifskope

All the folders for both the game and Nifskope are the same as they were prior to my OS re-install (which is on my C: drive).

Hmm. Vewy stwange. I think I'll go hunt some wabbits or try a new directory and see what happens.

I tried to add the BSA files directly (like your pics), and install to two different folder off the root of both of my drives (C: & D:) and nothing is working. Its all the same. No textures from the BSAs.

I have that archive on my computer, but there is no documentation on where to extract the files. Where do they go. I tried before I posted to put them in my nifskope folder, but that did not work either. If you know where they should go specifically, I will try again. But I'm not sure they are needed for what I do.

EDIT: Well, I tried every conceivable combination of the three files in that archive and got the same results. I am clueless as to what else to try, other than extracting every single texture from the BSAs

Did you try File>Resource Files and selecting the .bsa files there?

ThrottleKitty, I love you man. That did the trick. I just ticked the Automatic Selection, and it populated the list with all the BSAs & the mesh in my render window had a texture! Do you know why that might have occured by chance? Whatever. Thanks again!

It's a bit misleading, but 'resource files' is the list for .bsa files, and the list in render settings is for loading loose files off the hard drive.

I could not find that bit of info anywhere on the Niftools - Nifskope web pages. Maybe someone should add that little bit of info to the "Setting the Texture Search Path" page as a footnote or something. But thanks again, you made my day.
