character for a beginer

Post » Thu Sep 25, 2014 9:00 am

Hi! I want to start playing Skyrim and I would like an adivice what character should I choose. I know that you have practise skills like smithing but I would like to avoid special training these kind of abilities (except using trainers and learning skills "automaticly" during the game). So any characters can be played like this or I HAVE TO spend hours on just practise skills?

No, you don't have to "grind" your skills in this game, unless you're doing something extreme like playing at the highest difficulty. Your character will not level quite as efficiently, but it really doesn't matter as long as you are playing consistently. I would suggest picking one fighting style and sticking with it; don't switch back and forth between two-handed and one-handed, for instance, because the result would be that neither skill would grow adequately.

^^^ what he said, the key thing is FOCUS first. Then branch out after you've reached mastery of at least 1 combat style you like. You gain xp by using the skill in any context, so you don't have to take training to level up the skill, just using it levels it up. Actually I should say, level up anything you please, but only spend perk points on your preferred fighting method. Perks not xp is the key. If you level up lockpicking through a trainer but then spend/save the perk points for archery that's viable, although don't do too much of that or you might be unbalanced with combat. But using a bow just to do a quick one hit, and then switching to sword and shield will level up all three, Archery/Sword/Blocking, but if you prefer Sword/Blocking even if the xp from Archery levels you, putting perk points into Sword/Blocking is the best move. If that makes sense.

My best advice is to stick to about 5 -6 skills that you intend on putting perks into. You can still have other skills as well, but those types tend to not get perked as much (if at all) as your major day to day skills.

I just want to ask one more thing. Is archery + conjuration make sense? I would like to use a bow as my main weapon and summon creatures to tank.

Viable sure. But if you get good enough with a bow you don't need a tank because you're doing one shot kills. *grin*

I'd say it's an excellent combination. You don't even have to carry a real bow or arrows, because you can summon the Bound Bow when you need it.

Hey there, I've built lots of characters myself and always try new builds. The first thing you want to decide is what playing style do you want to be. Do you like to fight with magic? If so, magic, and magic related perks are your focus. Want to be a brutal warrior? Health, stamina and weapon perks are what you want to focus on. First decide what you want, then go for it. If it doesn't work out, you have plenty of time to change your character and his/her stats.

I have a saved game from just before they make you choose "who are you?" Just so I don't have to sit through the tedious cart ride again. Makes trying new toons a bit easier.
