I LOVE playing as a khajiit.
Used to play mostly nords, dunmer, bosmer or Breton. Oh and orc. But khajiit is so much fun. I imagine mine as a sassy little feline who's very quick and agile. not just of body but of the tongue. I RPed she had to bribe guards to let her into the cities... heh foolish guards.
Nighteye so useful for dark places when exploring. and I know... a khajiit that's a thief? but yes she is a thief. and a good one at that. But she is not interested in really joining any factions.
Give it a shot. Its a lot of fun.
Supposedly, but there's tons of evidence that shows that it's actually the caravans and not individual Khajiit that are banned from cities. Given that the caravan Khajiit actually are criminals, it isn't that surprising.
However, it would make for an interesting roleplay if you do go that route. You could be forced to bribe the guards in order to enter a city (probably dumping a few coins into a barrel or something when inside or by installing a mod if you're able). Maybe you stay away from walled cities altogether. I've never tried it but it could be fun.
But yes, playing as Khajiit is actually pretty fun. Because cats are great. You get a bonus to hand-to-hand damage, which opens the way for a monk build or something similar if you wish.
Night eye can be useful if your display is pretty dark or you have mods that improve lighting. Otherwise it's kinda meh.
Personally, I went with a Cheshire Cat/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_s%C3%ACth-type character with my main Dragonborn, being a soul-stealing, Daedra-Conjuring Illusionist with a http://i.imgur.com/N5KmHLQ.png http://i.imgur.com/dNWCVF9.png
thing is I don't believe the khajiit caravan's are any more criminal then the other races the guards let into the city every day. For example the Riften Skooma dealers? "gasp" no khajiit members. Not even the skooma suppliers have a khajiit working for them. I encounter more orcs, dark elves, nords and bretons on the road offering to sell me skooma then I ever encounter khajiit sellers.
And each city has its own fencer for stolen items who... surprise surprise is NOT a khajiit. In fact the thieves guild does not have any khajiit members.
Only time the khajiit caravan seems to behave in a criminal fashion is if you do the thieves guild quest that makes them fencers. Or look at Ysolda's connection to them. Which again mind you doesn't make EVERY caravan criminals.
Plus how do they know you, the lone khajiit at the gate isn't from a caravan? There's one outside the city right now! so I thought bribery was a nice touch.
There are khajiit in cities already. It's just the caravans aren't allowed.
The fact that they're selling Moon Sugar out in the open makes them a bit questionable in my eyes, and most likely in the eyes of the guards. Pretty much any one else that sells it is far from city walls regardless of race. Not to mention Tonilia explicitly states they're notorious for smuggling.
"They're shrewd traders and don't mind getting their hands dirty. I've bartered with their leader, Ri'saad, on more than one occasion." "Actually, I want you to bring him something. You see, the caravans are notorious for transporting illegal substances."
The Riften Skooma dealers had the guards paid off as informants so they avoided being caught. The prejudice the Khajiit face might make them more likely to be caught, too, so I'm not surprised there aren't any criminal types in the actual cities.
I do question how many Khajiit actually travel to Skyrim on their own, though. Even some of the caravan Khajiit seem to regret the decision and the only other Khajiit are either with the College, part of a boat's crew and eventually Lighthouse caretaker, or bandits. The jewelers in Markarth imply that Khajiit used to visit and stay in the city, at least.
Anyways, what if there isn't a caravan for miles, though? However, I admit it would be pretty difficult to get in. Something tells me one either suited up like an adventurer or a nobleman might have a better chance, though. Especially due to the money.
Hand to hand damage can only be buffed by either enchantments or a perk in the Heavy Armor tree. There's exactly one piece of armor with the enchantment in the Riften sewers.
so how many of you who think the khajiit caravans are scum because they sell moon sugar, will then take their gold by selling stuff to them?
Depends on the character, honestly, and how much they actually know or whether they believe the (totally true) rumors. Most of them it just takes a look at the Moon Sugar to stay away from them, but others...
Personally they're KITTIES and KITTIES get all my attention whether they're criminal scum or not. Don't worry kitties, I'll save you! (Unless your default is "kill!" Then you can go die.)
Khajiit Dragonborn: "Alright, Ri'saad, I'll tolerate you and those lowborn under your employ so long as you continue to benefit me."
Breton Spellsword: "Oh, hey! It's you guys! I have some things for you! What's this? It smells sweet, is it edible? What, poison? Can I use it for alchemy? I'll take a few, then. I don't care what anyone says, you guys are great."
Bosmer Smith: "Hm...why not? Have anything good?"
Breton Sorceress: "Get away from me."
Nibenean Pyromancer: "WHO ARE YOU?"
