If I take a fortify enchantment potion and then enchant an item, does the time I spend naming it count against the 30 seconds? If so, that's really a bad idea.

I thought the naming part paused the game.
I think it depends on platform, console it pauses, PC it doesn't. I've seen the console pause in a video to pop up the keyboarding screen. Really stupid.
I mean for me the only reason it's necessary is to label one set of clothing Alchemy vs Smithing. I suppose I could use silver jewelry to indicate Smithing and gold for alchemy but they should allow naming to be done in a different way. I wonder if there is a mod that lets us rename items.
Well that svcks. I did find a mod though that lets you rename anything. Haven't tried it yet so don't want to promote it in any way until after I actually try it. I'll do so by morning and update here.
I don't recall ever having a problem with it. And I'm on the 360.
Try it with a whole set of gear. Then you'll notice.
Oh, I had no doubt. Mods like that are everywhere.
Yeah but I'm not keen on using mods, I wanna play the game as intended but I feel that if I don't label my armor sets Alch vs Smith etc... I'm gonna be wearing the wrong thing at the wrong time and going back to the last save and redoing things a lot. I'd rather make the armor, then change the name later. They should have Renaming stations in every major town. Pay 100 gold per item to rename your stuff. This game needs a gold drop in some way anyway. I know they're not changing it anymore but still, something to keep in mind for TES VI.
Okay, so there are three apparent conclusions here:
1. I'm delusional.
2. It's different for you for some reason unknown to me.
3. You're just really fast at enchanting [censored].
You gotta have lightening fingers, and plan ahead.
