Ranger Build - Key Perks and Tips on Costumes

Post » Wed Oct 01, 2014 9:11 am

Hello all, I'm a first timer in Skyrim, playing a Redguard warrior inspired in the Scorpion King fighting style, currently in his mid 20s.

For those who are not familiar, it's pretty much a classic D&D Ranger build, focusing on Dual Wield, Light Armor and Archery, with a tad Sneak while indoors. No magic whatsoever. I use Restoration only if things get rough and I'm out of potions, which makes healing an issue sometimes. Suggestions here are much appreciated.

Nonetheless, the Skyrim perk tree still confuses me even after 20+ levels. I'm not really sure about the considered key perks for these trees, and if there is an optimal order to pick them. Also if there are any "core" perks from other skills (Smithing, Alchemy, Enchanting...) which are useful for most builds.

Finally, I'd like to know if there are any Middle Eastern-style costumes/armor and weapons I could search for. I'm currently wearing/wielding Elven gear, but I feel it does not quite fit the character. Since there are no camels in Skyrim, I've already grown fond of my horse.

Thanks in advance

Don't take the Bladesman perks, if you haven't already. You might also want to invest in Alchemy since you're using potions.

As for gear, there isn't much for a Redguard that has an armor rating. You can get some Alik'r Clothes but they offer no protection, just looks. If you're on PC, you can install Immersive Armors and that adds a Redguard Knight armor.

From smithing you should take the Steel Smithing and Arcane Blacksmith perks, Even if you aren't interested in making your own gear you'll want to be able to improve any enchanted gear you acquire.

Enchanting needs a high score and quite a lot of perks before it becomes worthful having IMO.

If you're using alchemy mainly for healing get yourself 1 level of Alchemist and the Physician perk. Restore potions you make will be 45% stronger for just 2 perks.

Personally I'd recommend doing the quest Ill Met by Moonlight (starts in Falkreath) as you can acquire a cuirass that suits a hunter and has a usefull enchantment. Its not at all Middle Eastern though.

Whoops, I've already picked 2 ranks of those. But what's so bad about it? Critical rating is good, is it not?

Yup, I figured Arcane Blacksmith would be important, as most enchanted items I loot are far better than the ones I can enchant myself. I end up using some of those even without improvements.

As for Alchemy, definitely trying that :)

It only calculates the damage using the Base Damage of a weapon, and the highest base damage in the game is 16, if you have Dragonborn (14 if you don't).
