Is heavy handed a dud?

last outing i was using the thermic lance without the heavy handed trait, this outing i am using the lance with that perk. seem weaker with that trait. i used the auto doc in OWB to change that trait to something else. and i notice that i was doing more damage.

did you even check the Pip-boy on the damage increase? The reason you're doing 'more damage' is because of criticals. thermic Lance does 10 crit damage per critcal, and all automatic-melee/unarmed weapons check for criticals 30 times a second, so overall you have a chance of doing 300+Thermic Lance damage per second of using the weapon. With Heavy Handed on, you decrease that damage to 4, so the 120 possible crit damage isn't really noteworthy.

i get it. i didn't take into consideration how often critical hits will occur with that weapon.

95% of the time Heavy Handed is worth it and will increase your damage output, even on high luck builds with weapons with modest crit rate.

You seem to have found a member of the 5%

this made me laugh so much. Kudos Longknife.

The only automatic weapon that seems to be still fine by taking Heavy Handed is Industrial Hand, though by not much.

Industrial hand+better Criticals+Just Lucky I'm Alive= 90 crit damage=2700 critical damage a second.

Industrial hand +Better Criticals+Just Lucky I'm Alive+Heavy Handed= 36 crit damage=1080

Not as ridiculously powerful, but still has it's punch I guess.
