Traders run out of caps and inventory!

Post » Sat May 15, 2010 8:51 pm

Hello, everyone!

I've recently started playing this game. It's a ton of fun, sure, but it seems to be a bit less stable than Fallout 3. For example, on my file, every trader I've ever met has run out of caps! Plus, their inventory never gets replenished. The last time I sold anything to anybody was probably about two weeks ago in-game, and a couple of days ago in real life. I've waited and waited, I've gone out, started, and completed other quests, and I have a footlocker absolutely full of equipment to sell! I'm running dangerously low on ammo because no one has any more, and because I'm low on ammo, I can't kill much. I have to use melee weapons (fine by me), but I can't afford to repair them! I'm level 14, and I've gone through the game so far without repairing much and barely coasting on whatever caps and ammo I have found! Am I doing something wrong?

Even worse, my brother also has a file, and everything's working just fine for him! He's freaking rich, but I can barely afford anything because nobody can buy my stuff!

yeah, i have had that same problem myself with most if the vendors. but try the Gun Runners, and the Great Kahn Armorer, they constantly replenish their inventory every 3(game) days. those 2 alone should be enough for you to sell off your stuff, and buy more of the good stuff. :gun:

Well, I've tried them, too. Everyone, and I mean everyone, is out of caps and ammo, even that guy in the Dino-Bite Gift Shop!

Thanks for the advice, though. I think my file's just messed up somehow.

[censored] man, i am sincerely sorry to hear that. this is an absolute disgrace, and Bethesda and Obsidian owe all of us here a [censored] apology for releasing a broken game. these are not 'small bugs', these are GAME BREAKING BUGS, and i am baffled and disgusted that these ass-holes had the balls to release a game that was clearly not even close to being ready for release just to line their greedy pockets. i am baffled that there are still people defending Bethesda, claiming that there was no way they could have known that New Vegas would have so many game breaking bugs prior to release. how anyone at Bethesda and Obsidian can actually take pride in developing this disaster is beyond me. again, i'm sorry you are having such a hard time man. but trust me, you are not alone. hopefully, this so-called patch they 'claim' to be working on, will be released soon and fix the MANY problems that have ruined the Fallout experience for us. good luck.

Yeah, I sure hope so. It's fun, alright, but how can I go on longer without weapons or ammo? Plus, the creatures are getting harder and harder... I honestly don't know how I'm still alive! At least with Fallout 3, I got out of the vault, found some decent weapons and armor, and made it through the game! Apparently, that's impossible now...

Well, thanks for trying to help. I guess it's just a horrible glitch...

i've never needed to buy ammo from merchants, what are you doing with all the ammo found in the game world lol? Sure armor piercing is nice, almost essential for some guns, but not all. svcks I guess if you really want AP ammo, but I tend to sell back a lot of my ammo, especially in hardcoe mode.

I use the ammo to kill enemies, what else? It's surprisingly rare on my game, and I can't get any more from traders, so I can only get it from enemies and containers. However, if it takes more ammo to kill an enemy than the enemy has, then it's a waste. Plus, I still have a lack of caps, which means I can't repair my equipment, which means it takes more ammo to deal the same damage to an enemy, which means I damage my gun more and I have less ammo later. I mean, if I didn't have any ammo at all, I could get by with melee weapons alone, but without caps, I can't repair them. It's the perfect wrong combination for the game!

Even early in game I can procure on site weaponry, use multiples of the same gun to repair. I even have built to destroy and low repair, and I just am not having this shortage. Like I said I never buy ammo. I do steal a lot of ammo from places, heck I steal a lot of stuff from everywhere, maybe that's the difference? Lots of ammo in desks and boxes and things.

Really? On my game, ammo's not so common...

Either way, the main topic is why the traders aren't replenishing their inventories and caps.

For what it's worth I've got the same issue on the 360. I haven't found anyone with a solution yet but if I do I'll post it here too.

Here's a little trick for you sopwith,go to the [censored]-tron at the Gun Runners, save standing in front of him with your crosshairs on him just that it shows his name, and quit to the XMB.Hopefully when you reload your game he will have magically replenished his stock. If not, repeat and try again. And failing that(which seems to always work, but different games, different Douchetrons, you'd better just WAIT or SLEEP for about 3 days and try him again.Failing that, your game is screwed up.

On the 360 at least I have learned if you wait standing right in front of the merchant - try 3 hours at first - after the 72 hour period, they will refresh their inventory. What I don't know yet is if they will continue to do so. It only seems to work for that specific merchant, too, so you can't refresh 'em all at one time. However, it does give you a bit of a workaround and a chance to buy some bullets!

I have a similar problem with a few merchants - one of the steals my goods when I try to sell them...

As a Fallout 3 vet, I'm well aware of resting to restock merchants, it doesn't work as a fix for me as the merchants scripts seem to be broken.
