What quest triggers the (random) dragon attacks?

1. You start in Helgen, Alduin makes a mess out of everything and then you escape through a tunnel.

2. Someone tells you to get to the Jarl of Whiterun.

3. The Jarl of Whiterun tells you to talk to the mage who tells you to pick up a dragon stone. So far I can't remember any dragon attacks?

4. You get back to the mage and give him the stone.

5. A guard arrives telling you a guardtower is under attack by a dragon, you go there and kill the dragon and now you're the Dragonborn and it's now the random dragon attacks start to occur?

What if you don't do step 3? What if you return to Helgen instead? Alduin will do a fly by while you look at the destruction and fights of some bandits?

Then you will see Alduin every now and then flying around and howling like a overfeed turkey in the night sky but no random dragon attacks?

Reason I ask is because I want to play the Helgen Reborn mod but without having my ass handed to me by dragons every now and then.

Also, I might do it by using Live Another Life mod, and I don't want dragons to appear. :)

Don’t do step 4. Better yet don’t ever pick up the Dragonstone. If you have the stone in your inventory and approach Farengar I seem to recall the quests moving forward without player input. If my no-dragons characters have a reason to clear Bleak Falls Barrow (like for the Golden Claw quest) it’s easier for me to just leave the Dragonstone on the boss draugr’s corpse than to try to make up a reason to avoid Farengar for the rest of the game. They end up with the Bleak Falls Barrow quest unfinished in their log.

Yea don't deliver the dragonstone to Dragonsreach. I usually don't go into Bleakfalls Barrow if I'm putting off the main quest, but not grabbing the stone (like Grits said) works too.

Good luck rebuilding Helgen! That’s one of my very favorite mods. :)

Thanks! I just need to re-install my Skyrim and re-mod it. It's too messed up right now. :)
