I need to know this, Gstaff and Bethesda, please tell me, will The Evil Within run at 60FPS on PC ?
A credited Neogaf insider with the username 'crazy buttocks on a train' recently reported that The Evil Within will be capped at 30 frames per second on the PC version. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=133318376&postcount=349
This is why Bethesda has been quiet on the topic of TEW's PC framerate. Which is a shame, because it won't look smooth and silky ;_;
Oh well, if Bethesda keeps playing coy with information on their games and specifications then I'll stop paying for their products. I already cancelled my preorder, their loss.
And yes, the way CBOAT types is in his own style, but he's been mostly right about everything that was leaked before.
What? PC version isn't Tango's work? Then who is porting....id is not involved wich is a bad sign...only they could help with optimising.....still not pre-ordering....I smell big problems with the game on pc. Id tech 5 game locked to 30 fps on pc is either stupid parity with consoles....or there's really something wrong with the optimisation.
Reading through NeoGaf posts I found this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPeM1JUc8pk
Guy is playing at 1440p, wich prooves this is pc biuld....player also commented in german this is pc. It looks awesome and I haven't seen a single texture pop-in, but 30 fps lock,, that's totall BS.
You know, if Bethesda has been upfront with this, and explained their reasons to the customers, there wouldn't be much of an uproar.
This is what you get when you try to deceive your customers by activating radio silence.
I've seen this a mile away.
Still waiting Gstaff give me an answer here!!
There are 20+ beta-testers playing on steam, right now, and you guys can't say if it runs 60FPS? wtf
Answer is below. We've also put together some other useful nuggets http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1508448-the-evil-within-releases-next-week-things-to-know/
Now I can love you guys thank you very much Gstaff and Bethesda
Now I'm in love with you guys.
This is incorrect for running any current gen console game. At least 2.5-3GB of unified RAM is used up by OS and other essential processes in consoles so there is only ~5.5GB unified RAM available for gaming purposes.
So I'll ask why do we need 4GB VRAM + 4GB system RAM on PC when the consoles only have 5.5GB unified RAM in total?
Now we are talking! Thanks GStaff! Console command is all we need))
Hey Bethesda, just wanted you to know that i just cancelled my Amazon preorder after reading the official statement of 30FPS Lock on PC.
If i′d wanted to play with 30 FPS eyecancer, i′d get a so called next Gen console.
If you are VERY lucky i′ll buy it in 1-2 years in a Steam Sale, but i sure as hell wont pay full price for something that isnt able to run at least 60 FPS out of box on PC.
Damn, just when i thought we would finaly get a proper F.E.A.R. 1 successor, what a shame....
So before i explaode into some holy crusader that is annoyed on all counts as a Gamer and Programmer, i suggest you read this *Or well links can't be posted...*
So i think a lot of us PC user will feel spat on when you tell us that we should basically accept a lesser product because it fits the "artistic vision".
Hell you quote film look as the reason, so let me ask you this. Why are you comparing apples to oranges. Besides the fact Thomas Edison said that we should be using 48 FPS for film. 30 FPS generated from gaming engine is different from 24 FPS from a camera or generated from an animation engine in most cases. (Also why the hell are you ruining the artistic vision by adding 6 Frames.)
Simply put, those 24 frames have a blur affect applied to them which the human eye can use to fill in the lost detail. I have never heard of a game engine with a motion blur option that works the same way. It is already taxing to do the motion blur on professional systems with specially designed GPU. Don't get me wrong there is a thing that is called motion blur in game but it's not the same effect and most people i talk to turn it off because they don't like it and it affects the FPS & visual quality.
Let's not even go into the resolution options! Look if i buy your game i'm going to buy it because i think i'll like it. Generally that means i think it is or might be fun but it also might just have a great story that might also be tragic.
For 60 FPS requiring users to input a command line then require them to input console command in is not good enough. Give us options even if they do not fit with your creative vision. If you want us to play at 30 FPS then make it run at 60FPS and put V-Sync on for all your preset options and suddenly all these complaints are gone.
Now just to look at how i'm a hypocrite i'll say that i'm fine with "South park: Stick of truth" being locked at 13 FPS (heard someone recent say 30, i believe it's 13) but here is the thing, that game for animations looks like crap, and that exactly what they intended but that's also a 2D game with slow actions. If a 3D game attempted to do that same i'd be annoyed. Yes 2d gets more leeway than 3D. Be that statement is not clear enough so let me restate it. The people who will buy "Stick of truth" are likely to buy that game because of the humor & art style. That art style litterally looks horrible in every aspect. The same argument is hard to make with 3d products because quite frankly bad 3d is just not enjoyable unlike a lot of 2d art i've seen.
Look that fans of this game in most cases will be people who like "Horror". As such why should you treat every "Horror" fan as some "Movie horror fan". On PC if they bought this game and they're a "Horror movie fan" then their are 2 out comes.
1. They honestly don't play many games, so their hardware is unable to reach 60 FPS forcing them to use 30 FPS and giving them that true horror movie experince.... plus 4 frames for no logical artistic reason.
2. They are also gamers who likely like horror thus they are in just plain old "horror" demographic. They might like 30 FPS they might like 60 FPS but there is no reason to except them to pick 30 FPS when given the option.
Okay i better go before i explode anymore.
Well actually that summarises some of what TotalBiscuit said in his "Frame-rate non debate" anolyse. This is defenately an imprtant issue. It is easier to cover all your incapablity as a dev when you are facing technical limitations of a targeted hardware by applying "an artistic vision" trick. Well at least Tango never said BS like 30 fps is for filmic look and 60 fps would damage the aesthetics of the game. I even think that 21:9 aspect ratio became a thing when devs realised that modified lighting of id Tech 5 simply kills performance significantly....so they croped the screen. And people continue movie/games comparisons never realising it is apple/oranges all over again.
Thank you Gstaff.
Console commands are why I love PC
I agree. a theory people had on PCGamer is that the aspect ratio is what it is because the cutscenes are set to that aspect ratio. It's a theory.
Anyways i personally i have repect for devs who admit they can't pull something off. Take Darksouls 1 for instants. I'm fairly sure (But i'm kinda thinking i should comfrm) they said they didn't know what they were doing when they ported the game. It was locked at 30 FPS and had a ton of other issues.
While i think Dark souls was a bad port and i know their is a fan fix, but i still didn't lose respect for FromSoft themselves.
When Dark Souls 2 came about, what did they do? From what i hear they made a great port and i can respect FromSoft for not only making a good port but also improving (The signs of a good programmer mind you!).
When some one says "artistic vision" when telling users the game is lacking important features, then it comes off as complete incompetence even if it was likely a business decision. If they said they aimed to get users at a FPS of 120 because of their artistic vision then i wouldn't have a problem (Assuming they allowed people with hardware that couldn't reach 120 FPS. No call of duty ghost bull!)
