LOD generation problems

I created a small worldspace and seem to be having an issue with LOD generation. I followed A.V.'s tutorial to the letter (several times, each time removing the generated files and starting over) but the landscape LOD fails to appear for part of the worldspace. It is a small island that is only 8 cells north to south and 8 cells east to west. When I coc onto the island, and climb to its highest point which is at cell -1,2 the landscape looking to the west is not there but the mountains on the far western shore are rendering. Also when looking at the map for the island, the only thing that renders is the mountains and none of the landmass. I created the initial world space in the heightmap editor in the CK and then adjusted it with the landscape editor. The default water height is 0 and the land is -500 then I brought the land up above the water in the editor. Been fighting with this for several days now and can't find a solution. I even went as far as trying to generate the LODs in the ck but that was a mistake, cost me two nights work because I hadn't backed up my latest file before doing so (idiot).

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful for the help.

I also posted in the LOD tutorial thread.
