So, I always go back to a mage...

I've tried out a couple of warriors and sneaks and I always end up right back at playing a mage. I love the versatility of magic and that I can summon stuff to aid me in battle or raise the dead to fight for me. I don't bind myself to one school, I dabble in all schools as they're all very useful.

What about enchanting - do you practice those skills to buff your equipment or do you rely on vendors and loot? I like playing mages but found it was pretty easy to become OP with limitless enchanting.

I never really had much fun playing any kind of warrior in Skyrim, I always go with sorcerer or nightblade.

Yep, I hear ya. Ever since I discovered magic in this game (and bound weapons in particular), my non-mage archer and non-mage thief have pretty much fallen by the wayside. Currently running a conjuration-based two-handed warrior, a conjuration/illusion assassin-turned-thief-turned-Batman-like-superhero, and an alteration/destruction/illusion "pure" magic user who has only used a weapon once. Mulling over an idea for restoration-based dual wielding vampire hunter as well, but never considered restoration a valid school of magic...

Even with its limits compared to Oblivion, magic introduces too much potential variety to ignore.

Pure Mages are boring, but I almost always have a School or Two as one of my skills. It can certainly be useful, but not all too interesting. I like Paladins, or Nightblades, & things like that.

Wait, what? Standing idly by or pelting your foes with fire/frost/schock magic as your twin dremoras maul all opposition to smitherines is boring? Calming an entire dungeon of enemies and slaughtering one by one and raising the dead and letting them slaughter the rest is boring too?

There's so many ways to kill someone when being a mage. :)

It's either cast Fireball over & over(or your spell of choice), or get something else to do the work for you. Don't see the fun in that. Trying to make it sound theatrical doesn't help.

To be fair, Combat in this game itself is boring. I just find more enjoyment running in, weapons swinging like a badass, or sniping my enemes from the shadows & slitting throats. Throwing Fire at them, conjuring an infinite supply of Tanks, or making enemies turn hostile against each other by hitting them with an orb of light doesn't appeal.

Im with you on the mage. Warriors bore me. Mages are my second favorite next to sneak archers.

I used to play mostly warriors. But I've been gravitating toward Mages more and more. Mages just seem more interesting, more involving to me now. Playing a fragile-yet-powerful character keeps me on my toes, makes me think.

It's not a fashionable thing to say, but I really like the magic in Skyrim. I'd never been able to play a Mage in an Elder Scrolls game until Skyrim came out. I'd tried Mages in the other games, but I just couldn't stay interested in them for very long. I finally "got" Mages when Skyrim came out.

I liked my Skyrim Mages so much that I'm playing one in Oblivion right now. Skyrim has taught me a new appreciation for Mages in the other games. But I still like Skyrim's magic better.

I love playing mages whenever I can. Especially if I can mix in a little bit of warrior so they aren't quite so squishy.

My only gripe with mages in Skryim is that destruction magic damage doesn't scale, making it less than impressive in the higher levels and higher difficulties.

Also, need more spells that do different things in different ways. But that's kind of always true as a mage. :sorcerer:
