Explanation about Aspect Ratio on PC

Post » Fri Oct 17, 2014 8:43 am

I see a lot of posts confused about the aspect ratio being adjustable on PC. The aspect ratio doesn't change but the screen zooms in. There is nothing behind the black borders because they are locked. So when you adjust the aspect ratio you really aren't adjusting anything, just zooming in so you end up loosing content on the right and left.

Cinematic? What kind of excuse is this? It's common sense. Nobody truly likes the black top and bottom borders that eat up real estate on their TVs, this is something that was forced onto consumers.

I'm sure being cinematic has nothing to do with it anyway. If you go back through the previews prior to release you can pretty much guess at what point they locked the aspect ratio, and I'm sure it wasn't a result of a design decision. As it is now, the game only takes up slightly over 50% of the TV/monitor and still has trouble maintaining 30fps.

No wonder Bethesda wouldn't allow reviews prior to release. Doesn't matter, I preordered in March because I had a lot of faith in a gifted director. I should have the game on Thursday but all of my excitement is gone. It's too bad since I have been watching this project for well over a year. Shame on your once well respected name Mikami, and shame on you Bethesda.

It's been known forever that the letterbox would be there no matter what and that it would be 30 fps, if you didn't agree with or like that you didn't have to buy the game. So far the game is pretty cool and is definitely living up to his past works, just because you can't get past the presentation doesn't mean it's a bad game. You're making it out to be a bigger issue then it needs.

That's funny because I don't seem to be the only one taken by surprise here. I am not making this a bigger issue than it is. I am simply taking part in speaking up against it so that it doesn't become a trend. The director and the publisher deserve some flack over this.

Well if people can't get passed the presentation it doesn't matter how good the game is they won't be able to see if it's good or bad anyway. To design a game with such a narrow artistic vision has ruined a perfectly good game for me. It actually gives me headaches playing the game so IMO the developer failed to design a game with the primary function of having fun. I'm not having fun as it's too painful to play the game.
