Xbox 360 disk tray won't open

Post » Fri Oct 17, 2014 9:49 am

Title says it all, really. I play my XBOX a lot, and literally just an hour ago I tried to take my baby Halo Reach out of the Xbox and put my other baby Skyrim in, and the power light flashed, as it does, but I was greeted by a not-all-too-pleasant grinding sound, and the disk wouldn't come out. So the XBOX read it again.

I've tried singing to it, brute force and some prying with a multi-tool, but to no avail. So I ask, what do?

Weep a woman's cry because I believe your disk may of been knocked out of the tray and jammed the disk tray. My old 360 did the same.

I fixed it by tearing it apart and removing the disk from the tray manually, but I would wait for some more confirmation before you strapped on the tool belt. If you have a local game store that buys old consoles I would try taking it there, most of those stores have them refurbished so they might be able to tear it apart and fix it or atleast let you know whats wrong. But it really depends on the store and the person. The store I went to was a store I used to work at and the guy I asked used to "jailbreak" consoles so he knew how to tear them apart without breaking them. But its still worth a shot.

I can imagine a montage of you with sweat running down your brow as you carefully remove the screws from your xbox to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D-QD_HIfjA.

Every time I want to switch games on my 360, I take a knife and pry the tray open. Works pretty well for me.

The tray is often the first thing to be a problem. But you can (usually) easily fix it.
(as linked above)

If you're still having problems with it, and the original warranty is gone, you can find a local Xbox repair man to fix it in 2 minutes.
It's basically just one small part that needs replacing. Out of all the problems that a Xbox has, the try sticking is the least of your concerns.

I use to do that, but I found it easier to just take the faceplate off and just use my hand to pull it open.
