Too difficult

Post » Sat Oct 18, 2014 4:44 pm

Why did you have to make Evil Within so ridiculously difficulty and borderline unpolayable.

Sorry but this game is far more frustrating than fun. At least the RE series (1-4) was well balanced difficulty, spooky and FUN..

This however is just way too frustrating to be fun. Love it or Hate it i guess.. I hget that some people like the punishing no room for any error difficulty but not everyone does.. Thats what difficulty settings are for and the setting on this does not seem to matter.. I have auto aim enabled but when i click to aim as per directions it usually ends up aiming off into space somewhere and by time i look to see where i'm facing again the zombie hits me.. Cheap cheap shot.. Man it'd be nice of there was a patch to ease up the difficulty on this for those of us that are not pro hardcoe gamers.. I love gaming but i'm not really "good"... Whatever the case.. this one if far more frustrating than fun..

I dont get it.. most previous Bethesda games seemed very well balanced with difficulty.. What happened with this?? It's needlessly tough and takes away from the experience rather than enhancing it.. Just my humble op, but this is simply unplayable... Please for the love of gaming make a patch for those of us who get more from a spooky story than punshing difficulty..

Just so you know, this is NOT a Bethesda developed game, it is a Bethesda Softworks published game. You can't go into it expecting to play it like Skyrim or Fallout.

In fact, Bethesda Game Studios developed games are far to easy at times.

True, May not be developed by Bethesda, but they still have say so in the finished game do they not...

Me personally i'd MUCH rather have a game be too easy than too hard..

Too easy only leaves you wanting more. Maybe a lil dissapointed.. But still Fun while it lasted.. Break out and replay again for fun...

But when a game is far too difficult it only frustrates people and turns them away with bad feelings. Not wanting to play at all.. Have seconds thought on future games by Developer/Publisher.... Leaves people upset in general...

Thats where proper difficulty settings come in.. You want the Unforginisg difficutly? Fine turn up the difficulty.. Do you loves games but simply aren very good? Turn the difficulty down.. Do you like games for thier sorty and environment instead of brutal challenge? Set it how you want it..

Soo. my point being.. It's a fine line.. Would you rather people know the game for being Scary, Gorgeous and Fun but too easy... Or Scary, Gorgeous but too frustrating to even play.....

No.

Too easy does not keep me wanting more, it makes me want to uninstall and never play again, and scrutinize the developer.

It is a hard game, at least on hard 'survival' mode it is. That's why you play with as much thinking involved. You can't try to 'get through it,' it's a slow paced game and you have to plan and be patient is all. Sometimes you have to just hide out and wait for things to quiet down.

Yeah. i know there are people on both sides of that fence..

After 10 or so failed attempts at something.. i typically just get pissed, uninstall and never buy anything from the developer/publiusher again.. (Or at least have serious second thoughts before tryting them again)

Thats where a proper adjustment setting saves the day for all of us...

"hard" is a relative term.. Easy for some is Hard for others...

Me.. i love to game but i'm simply not very good.. And as mentioned.. after failing something a lot of times.. i just hang it up and gripe about it...

All the comparisons to RE.. I loved the RE series (At least 1-4 & veronics) i thought those were a perfect balance of difficulty, pace, tension, etc...

This one is nothing like those... And i freakin HATE how sebation bobs up & down soo much when hes moving.. Gawd thats annoying...

Could have been such an awesome game... I was sooo hyped and excited for this too.. (I wishing they could make a patch to ease it up a bit)

Don't listen to this whinin

You answered yourself. Hate it or love it. Well, this one is not for you. And resident evil games shouldn't be an indication here. May be this game is too hard and isn't fun...I'm yet to find out....but something tells me that one need to apply a little more patience and attention. There's tooo much tooo easy games out there. Let us skilled gamers have this little gift from Mikami son. Please. This shouldn't be for everyone.....not a single game should be for everyone. I'm sure you can find apropriate game for you...there's tons of choice.

Exactly, games should not be designed for everyone. It only cripples the game and holds it back.

This game is not supposed to be RE, it's not trying to be a copycat. It simply took inspiration from it (thank you Mimami!) but it's definitely designed to be more hardcoe and have its own personality.

People practically begged here for the game to be hard before release and Tango delivered.

I've had the game 2 days now, played a few hours, I'm still in chapter 3, and I'm loving it.
This is not a game meant for people to beat fast, it's slow and stealthy.
Like I said, I've had to wait some long times in a droor or under a bed but it's what you have to do. It's how you survive.

I would like to add, however, that because I find the game has achieved being difficult for the fans, a patch for an easy mode is perfectly fine and should be considered.

It will add sales and free advertising with all the 'Let's Play...' Youtubers who we know play on easy modes.

Hey Caddahaulic

Sorry to hear you're having some issues with the difficulty.

It's not really that difficult a game and you're probably more than capable of succeeding even at "Survival" difficulty.

Now these are only suggestions, heck even what I just said above is a suggestion, but it's worth giving it a shot if it helps you get more out of your game.

You possibly need to slow down and look around.

Slowing down will help you not rush into situations where there are multiple enemies. One enemy who's seen you is bad enough but when 2 or more start joining in then it's time to run away.

You can throw a bottle to make a sound and distract an enemy. This can turn a 2 on 1 situation into a 1 on 1. Better yet, if you distract an enemy... you can sneak up behind them and give them an instant-kill.

Slowing down will also help you avoid traps. REMEMBER that you CAN sneak past bombs. You don't have to try and disarm them if that's a little awkward.

Also looking around will allow you to find more ammunition, more syringes and more bottles of green brain fluid to power up your character.

If you take it slow you will remember where stuff is. There's nothing wrong with backtracking to a mirror to go to the Save Point.

It's a survival horror game... so it's designed to be played carefully.

I reckon if you slow down you'll find yourself going further and enjoying the game more.

Let us know if it's any help.

:wallbash: Wow, threats about not buying another game are so funny, and wanting a game to hold your hand in a "HORROR SURVIVAL" game is even funnier. It's great to see a game that is hard and intense at the same time. Some people want baby mode so they can find finish and run through a game easily or find all the collectibles easily, then they complain how short a game is. Man... people now are even complaining that a game is too long!! (Alien Isolation).

Some of you must be young and don't remember when the internet didn't have answers for you. I remember Mortal Kombat in the arcades where you had to find fatalities on your own, When RE on PC would scare you and you had no help and the only people who could help you were your immediate friends. So bare down, if you need help to pass a spot; Google is always there to help you.

Well. here my thing.. and i'm not against a game being hardcoeor difficult.. I just think it should have an easier mode for gamers like me that simply arent very good..

Myself.. I been in love with gaming since i got my At2600 for christmas. yeah like in 78....

Anyhow. Not gonna pretend.. i love gaming but i'm just not very good... I like to play though..

I like to take my time and take in the scenery of games.. Good story, etc etc.. I dont like the run & gun hyperaction type too much..

Love the Old school FF series.. Hate the direction that series went.... Older RE was great.. The last few iterations svcked...

Difficulty and challenge is fine when applied properly.. I think this one is just overboard..

In my op.. it's just past the fun line and in the frustrating zone..

Some gamers are hardcoe and get thier kicks off a ridiculous challenge.. Thats fine..

Some gamers are just not as good and just like a good spooky story and great viuals, etc to explore..

Would it be soo terrible to have a setting?? You know then it would appease all sorts of gamers..

And i dont see how that would detract from the game.... If you think it too easy.. Crank up the difficulty.. If it too hard.. Back it off..

Boom.. everyone happy.. as it is.. you got your hardcoe crowd getting off on the brutal difficulty.. and you got everyone else that just frustated with it..

Also.. FYI... Im stuck at the chainsaw guy in Ch 3.. How the heck u kill him?? I tried probably 20 times now.. Tried following tips off google, etc.. Hitting him with evertything.. he just dont die...

As for "threats".. I been a FF fan since the origin on my NES.. I used to buy up abotu everythign from Square.. But I didnt lkike 13-2 then after 13-3. I think square lost thier touch and i do not plan to buy anything from Square again.. or if somethign looks good.,. i may rent it first from now on...

Whatever the case.. Thanks for reading..

I just wish there could be a patch to ease this thing up for gamers like me... Its killing becasue i want to play it so much.. but it just too dam hard and ends in frustration...

I don't think that difficulty is overboard. Yes, survival difficulty is hard, but as long as you always play it safe, you will be able to progress. Some guy above gave you some tips. Follow them, thats how you play the game. I am in chapter 13, and I have died about 30 times only. Some people claim that they finished the game on survival and died 200 times... I really don't know how that is possible. I am not good at gaming, just like you, I normally svck at these types of games, but I am progressing in the survival difficulty with no real hardships. Just a few deads where I got careless. Now, my uncle started playing it in casual difficulty... man that was easy. You get more ammo, and enemies die more quickly. I think that you are playing this game like a COD style, running arround shooting everything. Here are some tips, that helped me with the survival difficulty.

1- Don't run around, walk, and crouch a lot.

2- Go slowly, assume that there is an enemy behind every door or corner and be ready to take it out.

3- Avoid wasting resources as much as you can. Try to sneak kill as much as you can.

4- search the areas for resources, don't try to rush the game, search every corner.

5- Traps... put a lot of attention to your surrounding looking for traps.

6- If you walk or croush most of the time, you will be able to easilly avoid every traps.

7- DO NOT deactivate traps until every enemy in the area is dead. Lure them to the traps, that way you can avoid wasting ammo.

8- When encountering more than one enemy, shot one of them in the legs, when they fall, burn it. Try to time it so that you can burn other enemies too. That saves a lot of ammo.

9- If you are not good with headshots, shot at the legs, when they fall, go for the headshot. Sometimes takes 2 headshot to kill the enemy.

10- Use the Agony arrow, the ones that are like a Flash, they blind enemies and you can go for a sneak kill. This works amazing against some types of enemies. Figure wish ones yourself.

11- Try to have your health at full most of the time. Most enemies will kill you 1 hit on survival difficulty if you have 30% or less of your health.

12- Bosses... Use your surrounding to slow them down, use traps to damage them etc.

In survival I have killed most of the bosses withouth wasting about half of my resources, so that means you don't need to use your entire arsenal to kill bosses, at least for most of them.

If they lower the difficulty bellow the casual, the game will break. In a survival Horror Game , dying must have a penalty. In this game, it is that you must start all over again from checkpoint. This makes it better, because you will try at all costs to be alive.

I saw that you asked how to beat the chainsaw guy in chapter 3... he's not that hard. Here, follow my instructions.

1- Kill every enemy in the area before confronting him.

2- DO NOT deactivate any of the traps, use them to hurt him.

3- He will die after getting hit by 4-5 traps.

4- When he get stuck in the bear traps, get close to him and shoot him 2 times with shotgun, then get away from him.

5- Try to have full health. He wont kill you in one hit if you have full health.

6- while running from him, throw a granade in from on you, run past the granade, since he will be following you, the granade will explode when he is near it.( Carefull with this one, bad execution will cause you to blow yourself up)

Moved this to the spoiler board as we've now got some gameplay specifics.

In http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1508879-hard-game/?p=23795302, I have a few suggestions to consider -- we're looking at other ways to share pointers on the game as well.
