Evil Within SPOILER FREE First Impressions as You Play

Post » Sat Oct 18, 2014 8:46 am

I am currently on Chapter 6 and wanted to talk with other people who are currently playing the game along too.
So this board is for talking about the game as you play without spoilers. That way players who are earlier in the game can talk about their experience without worrying about getting spoiled
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So far I think without a doubt it's Shinji Mikami's Greatest Game Ever, and the best survival horror game I've ever played (I havent played Last of Us yet)
It is currently my 3rd Favorite Game of all Time and I havent even beaten it yet, I just can only hope it continues to be so great.
I just really love the fact that it's like The Last of Us (stealth/crafting), Resident Evil (zombies/all those damn homages) and Silent Hill all in one.
Chapter 3 was where I really started to love the game. It took me hours and hours to beat. I got to the point where I just kept saving after I killed someone.
Chapter 4 is where I decided I loved it more than Resident Evil. Chapter 4, as short as it is is so far my favorite chapter because of all the surprises in it.
I love the characters (I mean so far i still like RE characters more, but they're really more icons than actual personalities. How can Sebastian compete with characters we loved since the 90s?)
I love saving, the music, the surprises. Evil Within has without a doubt my favorite way of saving ever.
I love how happy I am just to get 3 bullets,
I love the enemies
And most importantly I love the story and the world I am.
Currently I just have a couple of things I want the game to have to make the experience more perfect:
bullsh
A) The story doesn't turn out to [censored], once I figure it out.
 More variety in settings (I would be more specific, but thats kind of a spoiler)
C) Some calmer moments.
But so Far.......
GAME OF THE YEAR
10/10
100/100
Best Game

Not long started this, i have just saved and it says "CH.3 Claws Of The Horde" i started on survival mode as that was the hardest i could start on.

So far seems pretty average in terms of play (loved the resident evils) so this is right up my street, took a little bit of time to understand the splinter cell stealth mode

never really experienced that in a horror survival before. It as far as im aware (from memory) is usually shoot / kill or just run & hide aspects, so far the story is proving to be quite intricate.

As yet i dont know what is going on exactly story wise, it is still early days, but i am really enjoying it now that i figured out switching the aspect ratio of the TV to cinima

to get shot of the annoying black bars.

I look forward to completion to see what goodies this unlocks ;-)

PGCD DUrand :

The game doesn't fully pick up till Chapter 4.

Chapter 1: Intro

Chapter 2: Learn how to play

Chapter 3: Test Your Skills

So finish Chapter 5 and tell me what you think.

Vynezent :

Oh I absolutely am in love with this game, oh I love it so much. I'm like an instant Evil Within Fan boy.

I just cant wait to finish it so I can know if it really is one of my favorite games of all time.

The gameplay is amazing

the story is amazing

the enemies are amazing

And for me it's actually scary.

This game is just sooooooo AMAZING

I'll admit I picked this one up on the "hype train".

Glad I did though.

It's turning out to be a much better game than I thought.

Some great creepy dark visuals. Smooth gameplay. Enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Eh I bought GTA5 on the "hype train"

Than I remember that I got tired of GTA while playing San Andrease

I lot of people are just talking [censored] about this game because it's to similiar to Resident Evil

But Shinji MADE Resident Evil

The game is basically his response to how [censored] Resident Evil and Silent Hill have gotten.

(Dead Space and TLOU excluded)

We havent had a good one of those games in years and year.

This game is basically the sequel to 4 we all deserve (for dealing with 5 and 6)

And the one we all needed.

[censored] buying this game cuz you thought it was going to change the world, honestly the trailers were pretty explicit and articles said pretty obviously how similar to RE it was.

When I bought GTA5, and remembered I dont want to play GTA games anymore, I didnt go around talking [censored] about it like all these people who bought TEW and apparently don't want to play anymore RE games.

Honestly it's like the internet/public in general is trying to bury this game.

It's like ever since this game came out people wanted to hate it.

Can't speak for anyone else, but the large borders which should have been optional, the frame rate which Bethesda outright lied about on this forum and then to not even recognise peoples concerns is what's bothering me. Bethesda don't have a good track record regarding fixing their games and the console version doesn't have access to the modders that usually repair their games. I'm worried this game will never be fixed.

I understand its not good port, but most problems can be fixed easily.

It's still an amazing game.

You must be patient. Both other idTech5 games in the past were patched some time after release.

We're also not talking about big problems for the most part, they are easy fixes that go against the design decisions the devs took intentionally (for some reason). The one big problem is the bad framerate/inefficiency which is probably the #1 thing they're trying to work on.

I'm sure they want to release one good patch when it's ready instead of giving us little things as they're fixed.

I'm only in chapter one, I think. I got it yesterday, but then couldn't play it straight away. Then I started playing and my kids and one of their friends wanted to have a turn, then they decided to play another game. I have been waiting for this game for months, as I love survival horror. I'm not a run and gun fan, so I much prefer stealth and strategy games. I try not to watch too many game play trailers as I like to find out for myself what a game is like. I usually watch the normal trailers, then if they pique my interest I will watch a gameplay one and decide. I try not to pay attention to reviews, especially as Alien Isolation was reviewed as a bad game, but I'm really enjoying that. I'm enjoying Evil Within, even the small amount I've played. I am finding it a little "clunky" (on the PS4), but not too bad. I'm playing on the easy difficulty, as I'm a casual gamer and I find that easy mode is sufficient for me.
