GOG question regarding Windows 8 screen resolution

Post » Mon Oct 20, 2014 12:56 am

I bought a few games on GOG but they can play on my Mac OS so no problems. Now there is some games I would like but only play on Windows 8. So if I boot up my Mac on Win 8 can I still play these old games? By that I mean since Win 8 min screen resolution is 728X1286(sorry forget the exact number since I hate the look of Win 8 and not on it a lot) and a lot of these games are under that can they still be played?

I tried playing Star Trek Birth of the Federation and can't play it because the resolution to too low, I am worried the same will be said for the GOG only Win 8 games.

So will I have the same problems with other old games that have a resolution of less than 728X1286?

It'll either play in windowed mode, stretch, or change your resolution after going full-screen, which is exactly what these programs have done for forever. Windows doesn't have a minimum resolution, just certain features of Windows 8 are unusable on lower resolutions (the Modern UI aspects).

Thank you for your help Defron. So is this because it's from GOG? As I said, when I try to play older games not from GOG I can't play them because I only get the top left 1/4 of the actual screen.

Having never bought games on GOG or played the game you are talking about specifically, I have no idea what's going on, but I hear GOG has good support and will help you if you ask them, since you bought it from them.

Those are games from GOG that officially supports Windows. If you click on every game listed, you see if a particular game runs on Windows 8.

However, if i game plays at lower resolution, that depends on the game. Either way you can adjust this from inside your game properties menu (if any available), or maybe you can tweak it through your GPU properties panel. (GPU scaling).
