What do you do when you need a new seperate ESP on Steam?

So... Something I'm a little bit worried about. Updating my mod on the Skyrim Nexus isn't a problem, cause it allows so many Esp's per mod. But with Steam that's another story entirely.

I've made extremely massive changes to a mod of mine recently, like... Adding new scripts and stuff, to the point where, people who used to use an updated version of an old mod I made, would probably be best off starting a new game for it, sometimes that unfortunately happens when a mod is drastically altered.

(Sometimes unfortunately things, especially SCRIPTS the main primary offender, need to be drastically changed after a modder releases something, then massively improves it in certain ways- and sometimes even to the modder themselves it can take a while to find imbalances, or bugs-, or learn to improve a mod in ways they previously thought impossible long story short... And this makes a new separate ESP necessary when some peoples save games rely on an outdated version).

If I can keep the old Esp on Steam for legacy support though, at least peoples save games which rely on it, won't be jeopardized. So the question I present to you is, how do you recommend I do this?

I'm curious when you have a similar dilemma what do you do? Should I just release the new version in what Steam considers an entirely separate mod, and point to my new version on the old steam file, saying it's there for legacy support?
