Do prefer paying a Subscription or Free 2 Play?

Post » Wed Oct 22, 2014 12:52 am

Title speaks for itself for Online Games.

Personally I prefer free 2 play like Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2. I feel that having to pay a subscription fee sometimes discourages me from playing the game for long periods of time.

I did play WoW and Final Fantasy 14 Online for a while, but quit because I grew tired of paying a server fee.

So what is everyone's thoughts on this?

sub..

Free 2 Play has micro transactions, which only hurt the game in the long run.

Subscription. 15$ is pretty cheap.

F2P blocks you from many things with micro transactions, you'll end up paying way more than just 15$ a month just to be able to access content.

I do like the GW2 model though, too bad it did bore me a bit. :)

I'd rather pay a flat subscription fee than have to pay for content individually. "F2P" games can end up costing way more than the relatively cheap $15 a month of most subs.

I have far, far too many gaming and other entertainment options to ever have to resort to paying a subscription for a game again. Of course, I've come to the conclusion that while I like the idea of MMOs, I don't like the reality of MMOs so I'm happy with single player experiences.

keep in mind, I don't play many Online games these days (don't have the time), but I still prefer a Subscription system..

I'd rather pay $15 a month than go with a system full of Micro-transactions and pay-to-win items

Warthunder and World of Tanks have taught me you can actually have a completely free-to-play model with relative balance so that there's not a pay-to-win thing going on (ignoring the IS-6).

While I'd like to say subscription, because it's cheaper in the long run, I don't like the idea of HAVING to pay money to continue accessing content I've already earned. Top this wherein the 5 MMOs I've actually spent some decent time with being free-to-play (Guild Wars/2 is a FTP despite the buy-in price, because it subsists itself on microtransactions).... yeah I'm in that market I think.

I never liked the thought of paying a subscription to have access to a game. I tire easily of MMOs so I stick with the f2p ones and don't pay any real money for items and features.

I prefer paying $10 dollars (USD) a month or $15 dollars (USD) a per month for MMO video games than playing Free to Play (F2P) video games.

I like free to play when done in a way that doesn't turn it into "Pay to win".

GW2 did pretty good at this. I just think once you have a game you should have the neccasary content to be good at it.

And the main reason why I hate subscription is because it makes me feel forced to play the game while the subscription lasts in order to get my moneys worth out of it.

I haven't touched GW2 in weeks and it feels good knowing that I'm not wasting money by doing so.

The worst subscription model for MMOs is when you have to either choose a subscription or use a game card before you even get to play it and try out the "free" period.

naah, the worst subscription model was Final Fantasy 11, where you pay an additional charge per each character you have

Free to play because I haven't yet played an MMO that I liked enough to keep paying for.

Ok, that sounds awful, never played any of the FF games though, so I wouldn't know.

Sub. For a the glut of f2p out there, I can count the number that don't remove features or provide an advantage to those who pay on the fingers of one hand.

SP gamer here (one-time payment FTW)

but of the choices offered, subscription (though for me it's like me paying to work) at least that's how I felt in WoW

yeah, they charged per character

edit: as a result, few people had more than 3, even though the maximum number of characters was in the upper 20s IIRC

Sub. The one mmo I'm playing right now? If it goes to "free" I drop my sub instantly. I'm still having fun and enjoying myself, so paying a sub isn't a problem. I still haven't accessed all of the content that's been released.

Honestly.. to me.. it does not matter. I'm open and would like to experience it the way the developer wants me to.

I approach the game with an open mind, as much as possible. I mainly go with what the developers want. So if the developers want a monthly subscription I am fine with that, or if they want micro transactions while free to play then thats cool too. If the game is good I am willing to pay for it.

Really, the pay is the last thing I try and look at. If the developers look good, the pvssyr among the game community looks good, and game play videos look good I'm in.
