Consoles starting to become like PC's?

Post » Thu Oct 23, 2014 3:05 pm

Is it just me or are consoles becoming more and more like PC's themselves?

I've noticed consoles are starting to do things like Online games and surfing the web. I even noticed this as early with the X-Box 360 and PS3. They even use similar hard ware.

But am I the only thinking they are becoming more like your average gaming desk top?

I know the PS4 and XB1 are trying to do away with the disk and go digital and also require accounts like PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold Membership to play online and receive bonuses like free games and stuff.

Have you seen what a cell phone can do now?

It's logical that consoles do these things too, because it has become common place for our technology to have all that access.
TVs and cars can also be online. Welcome to the future :)

Cars and online should be something that shouldn't go together, I mean unless the car has an auto-pilot system in it to where it can drive itself people shouldn't need all that stuff in their car---it doesn't feel safe to me  .

Yes, they're not consoles anymore and are even advertised as "entertainment systems". It's all good though, saves splashing out on a dvd player I guess.

That completely depends on what the internet connection is being used for, doesn't it?

as long as the driver isn't using it I see no problem.. for example, say me and some friends decided to drive to Montreal to see a concert. the passengers watching a youtube vid or reading the news in the back seat would help pass the time..

Not to mention that traffic data, streaming music, weather data, etc. are all very useful and all things that an in-car computer could present to the driver in a non-distracting way.
