The loss of the 'ly'

Topics concerning grammatical faux pas come up with fair regularity (and generally to much scorn) on this forum, but one aspect of grammar I feel deserves particular attention. That is, the loss of 'ly'. Prompted to write this by the incessantly poor grammar shown on TV, film, radio and internet, as well as conversation with fully 2/3 of the English speaking world, I feel that ly is a thing worth saving. I watched Masterchef, or xfactor, or some reality pap, and was disturbed when a lady said "fantastically", only to be subtitled "fantastic". I wouldn't have written this had I not seen somebody in the 'More More Good News' thread state that their date went 'excellent'. I don't mind people making a mistake. I don't even mind if someone does this all of the time, but it seems that everybody does it all of the time. It has become endemic in our society and I find it disappointing that our language could be destroyed in fewer than 5 years by laziness.

Please, please, people, spread the word. Ly is in our language. Let it never be forgotten again!
