Going Beyond Skyrim?

Post » Sun Oct 26, 2014 4:53 pm

I'm not sure if I've ever brought this subject up before, but here goes! Is there anyone like me who tries to take their character beyond the events of what Beth has created, to create new RP adventures for their Dragonborn? I find it's an extremely interesting prospect, seeing that, just so long as you're careful and sensible, you can't go too wrong regarding lore 'cause the game is pretty open ended and open to almost unlimited possibilities. For example, , who's to say that Whiterun stays a tiny village like town? Who's to say it doesn't attract lots of incoming new citizens once the Civil War's over, and as a result becomes a more built up bustling community like http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/37874/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D37874%26preview%3D&pUp=1? Who's to say the Dragonborn doesn't go on to new world changing adventures after Alduin, Miraak and Harkon?

Whiterun isn't a village-like town in the lore anyway, it's just small due small scale of whole Skyrim. It is said that it's actually an important point of Skyrim commerce-wise due to it's central location in the province. :)

Do you know what "splitting hairs" means in Croatia? That wasn't the point of the thread, but as you wanted to pick apart what I said I will say that by English standards (yes, I believe even by medieval standards) it is a village like town. :)

This is pretty much the way I always play. I'm pretty cavalier about Elder Scrolls lore. I make up my own lore to suit each game and each character. The way I see it, I'm not here to be a part of Bethesda's stories. I 'm here to tell my own stories. I use the game assets provided by Bethesda to do this. Creating a character and living vicariously through that character and telling that character's story using the tools and assets provided by Bethesda is what role playing in these games are all about to me.

I bought the PC version just so that I could have the resources to expand on my character past the Beth stuff. As soon as I started the PC version I had ultimate plans which developed as I went along. As soon as I got Dawnguard and Dragonborn those plans developed dramatically. I have plans which come together and develop whilst I RP, and find new mods that both fit into lore and my own personal plans for my character. I've developed things even more by including a new playthrough character who'll be living in the same reality as Chadric, one who I hope I can make into an NPC mod for Chadric's playthrough later on.

I also play very fast and loose with lore. Green Pact? Not in my game. 200 year gap between Cyrodiil and Skyriim? Nah. Dragons? Maybe. Etc. I paid for the single player game and will use/change/trash lore to suit my purposes. That said, I sometimes simply ignore major pieces of the game and its quests. Sometiimes I pretend the quest events happen but via the bravery of an imagined hero who is not my character. Sometimes I blend things by having my character be a sidekick to the real hero. Lots of possibilities within the sandbox with imagination as the fuel. :twirl:

Do I ever!?

I'll spare you the details, but let's just say that my TES VI may not take place in the same Kalpa as my (original)TES V game did.

To clarify a bit, I consider my 360 and PC saves and playthroughs different "worlds," even though it's the same characters. I also consider both "canon," with the PC version being directly caused by post-Skyrim events in the 360 version.

Then there are also my non-Dragonborn characters that do things past the game's events in the world the Dragonborn left for them while he's off doing things crippled reality warpers tend to do.

I try my very best to stay within lore, but after the events of the Beth stuff I'll develop the lore further within the image of what I think could happen. I can see that Whiterun would grow after being held back by the Civil War, hence I hope to add the mod in my link into my playthrough. Obviously the mod wont be active for my other character 'cause his story will only take place during the Civil War. He'll hear about the Dragonborn, but he'll never meet him, for obvious reasons. Then, at some point, when I feel the time is right story wise, I'll end his story and turn him into an NPC mod for Chadric to find. And if I ever get to play Skyblivion I plan to make the Hero of Kvatch Chadric's ancestor. See where I'm going here?

Pretty much this. :)

We are having a Forsworn uprising in my "20 years after the events of Skyrim" characters, some druids have asked for help during my timeline where the events of Skyrim are happening, and several of my characters have taken to helping them fight the legions of undead that the Sload have been raising.

Main Quest? Yea it happened but my Dovah is guiding Paarthy(who took form of an older Nord) through the world teaching the old dragon how things work.

Civil War? Happened in a more background thing, right now Gilliam is busy setting up Legion outpost to combat the uprising Falmer. And eventually he will lead his men to Blackreach to fight the source of the problem.

I do what ever I want with my game and I am constantly adding and removing lore to make the world my own personalized world. Yea some folks don't like people doing that, but it's my world I can do what ever I please. :)

Beth's stories don't play a focal point in my world, some of them happen, some of them don't, but they play a very minor role.

I always take the base lore and tweak it to my liking. Perhaps my Nord character actually takes to liking non Nords? I get what you're saying and I play the same way.

Not quite making my own adventures, but I do mod in as much additional content as I can for my characters to go out on further adventures.

I play pretty close to the lore, and I choose the content mods accordingly. Falskaar looks really nice, but it isnt really canonical, whereas stuff like Helgen Rebuilt or in the future Beyond Skyrim are absolutely what I want.

Going out of the bounds of Skyrim the province to adventure across the wide berth of cultures and lands that inhabit all of Tamriel is a dream of mine. A game that accurately models all of Tamriel in a high-quality and lore-friendly way would be...Well, I dont think i'd ever leave :P.

Beyond Skyrim is extremely exciting, although it remains to be seen if its the same quality as the base game. I think I talked yesterday in another thread about how I was playing Skyrim and couldn't tell if a character ive run into was from the base game or Interesting NPCs. Mods are going through a renissance right now, and maybe one day ill be able to walk across the entire continent.

I too am hoping that all the regions will be added to Skyrim. At the moment all I see is Morrowind on Nexus, but I'd also like to see Hammerfell and Cyrodiil. It'd also be interesting to see High Rock added as well one day.
