Super Mutants and F.E.V.?

Are Super Mutants a mutation caused by the F.E.V. Virus ?

I went into that vault, not sure if it was 87 and apparently mutants take hostages there to mutate. Something like that. I have no idea how they really came about.

Yes, they're a result of humans being dipped into vats of FEV.

Vault 87 thread? Man, this is going to become a [censored]storm...

Anyhow, play Fallout 1 and 2. The origins of the FEV and also the hints at the wild FEV can all be found in those games.

Harold's story is explained in Fallout and Fallout 2. His case is special.

Fallout 3 tells you that Oasis will die when he dies and I think that's true. However, he doesn't have to die, you can also accelerate or halt the growth process.

There was also some speculation whether the seeds of Bob wouldn't give birth to sentient trees, that like the Harold from Fallout 3 were combined FEVmutant/plant hybrids and replicas of the original Harold, who is lost somewhere else. But this is nerd fiction from people who (like me) feel that his presence in the Capital Wasteland is a little far-fetched.

Harold was a normal ghoul until Bethesda made him a "special FEV Mutant." He shouldn't have even been in Fallout 3. He was there for fan service and it failed completely. I hope the story around him is taken back in Fallout 4 or just never mentioned again. If we see plants in Fallout 4 people will say "It was because of Harold!" And that is annoying.

As for FEV. Super Mutants in the West came from Mariposa military base. Super Mutants in Fallout 3 came from Vault 87. Two different kinds of FEV that produced a different type of Super Mutant.

FEV was not created to make Super Mutants. It was created to make people immune to chemical and biological weapons.
