Werewolf vs. Mage

Post » Thu Oct 30, 2014 4:40 pm

Recently I just became a werewolf and while I love the RPG elements of it and playing as a beast I have found that I'm exceptionally weak against magic. I'm level 52 and I have taken the 100 point health bonus from the perk tree but it's still quite common for me to be killed in two shots from a talented mage.

Is there any way to combat this? I don't by any means want to be invisible as a werewolf but it would be nice to be a little more fierce especially against magic users.

1. The Book of Love quest, from the female dunmer in the Riften temple of Mara, gives 15% resistance to magic.

2. A number of Alteration perks will help. Also, casting the *flesh spells before transforming gives armor protection.

3. Resist Magic potions.

4. Standing Stones: The Atronach and The Lord.

5. The Dragonskin racial power that Bretons get.

I'm an Imperial so I suppose there's no way for me to get the Dragonskin power. Correct? Also, if I cast an alteration spell like stoneflesh prior to my transformation does it only last as long as it normally does?

Yes and yes. Potions taken before transformation will wear off too when their timer runs out. In addition to resist magic, there are the resist fire/frost/shock potions.

The atronach stone works pretty good with the Magic resistance and the atronach perk in the alteration tree if you want to give those a try. Thats up to you though. Good luck and have fun with the werewolf. I personally prefer Vampire Lord more.

+1, these are great suggestions.

There was a dedicated werewolf player in these forums (back in the day :P) that used these tactics to great effect, and he played an orc if memory serves, so no Dragonskin racial power for him.

The potions and spells are great if you're planning on the combat ahead of time. Looking at the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Alteration for a refresher I'd suggest the 3/3 Magic Resistance, Atronach, Stability, and 3/3 Mage Armor. So, I guess, the whole tree then? :twirl: I suppose if you wanted to save the points then only grab the 3/3 Magic Resist and Atronach. Those will be a solid base along with the 15% from the Book of Love quest mentioned above.

You might also try the Dibella Temple questline. It gives a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Heart_of_Dibella against characters of the opposite six, which may help.

You might also want to look into enchanting. IIRC there are magic resistant enchants you can get... oh wait. Then again, I think it strips your armor off when you transform, so you're essentially naked huh? If that's the case then I'd get the rest of the Alteration tree (Stability, Mage Armor 3/3) and strip down before casting your flesh armor spells.
