My character is now doing the quests to collect the masks of the Dragon Priests. I know about the Dragon Priest Shrine, if I put a mask onto its appropriate bust(?), will I not be able to take it back ( to use it), until I collect all the masks and acquire Kohnarik's mask?

And if I intend to use one or more of the masks, is it better for me to keep them at home in a chest until I collect all the masks and put them in the shrine?

You can take them as you want them, but the tempering will be gone.
