HAPPY HALLOWEEN (All Hallows Eve) in the USA

I never really understood why there were such holidays - the Mexican "Day of the Dead" is similar, but different.

In the United States, we have "Trick or Treat" where children go from door to door in costumes like a grand costume party - and people keep bowls of candy and treats to give out to the "Trick or Treaters" as they come around. Anything from store bought candies, to home made goods like candied apples and such.

Unfortunately there are bad people who will put nasty things in such treats - razor blades pressed into apples, or drugs and poisons put on/in things, so that it isn't really as safe as it could be. And should be.

I heard about a church in my area that has a halloween thing they do in the church parking lot, where parents and church members bring their goodies to the church parking lot and have something like a halloween tailgate party.

They call it "TRUNK and TREAT" :D :icecream:

This way, the kids and the parents can be pretty sure that only good and safe things are offered.

When I was at the age where it was a thing to look forward to every year - I was for a time living in one of several local apartment complexes that were all close together in the Silver Springs area of Montgomery County Maryland (USA) and since there were so many people living "DOOR to DOOR" it was real easy to fill up whole shopping bags full of goodies by going around the apartments on halloween night...

WOW! The good old times. Enough chocolate to get sick on for a week or more... Parents used to take away some of the stuff so that it would last, and give it back over the next month or so. All sorts of people celebrating the thing, ghoulies and ghosties wandering the night, you would see your friends from school and everywhere having a merry time of it going from one building to the next laughing and having fun with the whole thing, being "IN COSTUME" and playing around.

Some people even got into it so much that they would make a kind of a theme at their door, or play spooky music on an upper floor balcony - and sometimes run out on the balcony in vampire or ghost costumes gibbering and making ghost and ghoul noises at the passers by.

How has your Halloween been?

Did you have fun???

:tops:

I think Halloween's pretty much dead where I'm living.

No fireworks, no bonfires, no trick or treaters, no great parties, nothing.

Pretty much a normal day.

This never happens. Except for a few isolated incidents in the past 50+ years or so.

I celebrate both Halloween and the Day of the Dead, I believe Sunday is for the Elders and Saturday is for the children, or could be the other way around, I don't really remember.

The kids are already knocking at the door, we decided to dress up as an axe murder couple! :D Lots of scary movies during the downtime, it's been a nice day.

The parents are happy that we are giving out candy, these places has been rather dead for a long while. And hardly anyone celebrates.

The same is true for any other holiday, sadly now a days it feels just like another day.

There are kids trick-or-treating around here (PA). I gave out some candy but not for long. I ran out early, and I'm not spending more than $50 on that. I did hook up my neighbors kids with more candy than the others that showed up though.

I was invited to a party tonight that expected people to dress up, and quite frankly as much as I love my friends, no thanks. Especially with the cops being out and about tonight I don't need to drive home drunk. That and I've been throwing up sick all day, otherwise I'd have just taken a cab or gotten a ride home from someone else.

I spent a delightful evening writing an essay on racism while drinking a can of Pepsi Max.

About as far as Halloween celebrations go around here.
