For the "Blood on the Ice" quest, if I go directly to Wuunferth without telling Jorleif about him (after investigating the house a second time), will he still identify the amulet?

I just went through this quest without selling the amulet to Calixto, and now it's stuck as a quest item (still unidentified), so I'm going through again. I know what happens, and the last time I didn't tell Jorleif it was Wuunferth, and I'd prefer not to this time, either. I'm thinking I just have to sell it to Calixto, then loot it post-mission and I'll be alright, but if anyone knows this won't work, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks!

As a sidenote, this was a fun quest. I really enjoyed it.

You can sell the amulet to Calixto and still go to directly to Wuunferth. He asks you to describe it and you're good to go.
