Software Patches for games ( Do you or Don't you?)

Post » Tue Nov 04, 2014 7:18 am

So is it important for you to have patches for games or are you okay with your games having glitches, exploits, and common freezing?

I really don't care if I get a patch or not. When I played Skyrim on the PS3, I pretty much glitch leveled my character until the 1.9 update fixed most of the glitches. I kind of miss the glitches although some people do not.

I hate Steam patches since it forces you to patch as soon as they are released - once you log in before you can just start a game and play it forces you to download and install the patch before you can launch the game -- and sometimes you just have a short amount of time to play and not wait for a 500MB patch to download and install. -- If they would give you the option to update rather than forcing it on you then I wouldn't mind them so much but as is I usually set Steam to offline mode so that I can actually play a game when I want and only log into Steam when I have the time to update every game in the library.

I've always figured if the game is working and I'm not experiencing any problems then the patch can wait until I have the time to patch it - and also would rather wait for feedback on any new problems introduced by the patch before blindly updating as soon as a patch is released.

Better to have them even if they encourage "release now, patch later" attitude, since all bugs are impossible to catch, and some of them can be quite disruptive.

Balance patches are good too since, again, you can only do so much testing until releasing it to the wild. And people are smart, they figure out ways to break things no developer could foresee :hehe:

Well, all my games on steam are patched automatically. Older games, I don't really care. But sure, if I see that a patch is available I might download it. But I don't go hunting for the newest patch. If I stumble upon it, then sure.
