Why such strict rules for these forums?

Post » Tue Nov 04, 2014 4:37 pm

This will probably get locked but I'd really like to point out that these forums for Fallout seem almost devoid of people. I see maybe 5 to 10 people a day in Fallout general discussion and I know a lot more people than that play the series. I'm guessing because any time a new member joins and asks something about Fallout or tries to make a suggestion their thread gets locked and they are told to use another thread. To me that just seems rude and unnecessary. Especially considering the number of people posting here. Couldn't they lighten up a bit to get more people and more discussions going on these boards?

Rules around here don't bother me, anytime I've gotten in trouble has been by my own accord. Basically don't start flame wars, don't advocate illegal actions and be respectful of others and this is actually a nice place to be.

It's because there are existing threads for such topics where members are more likely to frequent.

Because we don't want to possibly offend anyone.

Ever.

At all.

This community went from being nicely moderated and keeping out the chaos to... us not really being allowed to talk about anything that may trigger an emotional reaction in some way, shape, or form, or call people out on their shoddy behavior. And it's really lame. I feel like this is the society from "The Giver" at this point.

They do that so that the forums are filled with "My ideas/suggestions". Happens all the time in the TES section. They just want to keep it in one place to have it organized I bet.

Forum's in a slump because there hasn't been a major game release or announcement in a while. Once there is some news it'll pick up again as we'll be glad of the moderation keeping the peasants in line. But while we're in the slump the strict moderation is to make sure no little darlings get their feelings hurt or have to do any independent thinking.

Right, and I'd understand that if there were hundreds of people posting here, but there's not. Imagine you're a new member on these forums. You spend 15-20 minutes typing up this great idea you came up with for Fallout 4. Then, it's gets locked and you're told to post in another thread. Personally I wouldn't come back.

I've grown to like the strictness of the rules around here. That's one of the reasons I've stayed here, as opposed to moving to another forum.

Lets take away the rules once and lets see what happens. I have a feeling people will be fleeing to Reddit/4 chan by the end of the week because they will sound more appealing then this forums without rules.

8 members, 1 guests, 3 anonymous users

I'm pretty sure they're already there. I also didn't say anything about completely removing the rules. I just think they could lighten up a bit. You definitely need some forum rules for trolls and such.

Lol. This is the truth sadly. I have to go to other forums for big boy talk.

Yes. Because someone says that they don't like the way something is done, that means they would rather have the other extreme end of the spectrum. Good train of thought there, buddy.

I'm pretty sure no one left because of the forum rules, they left because they lost interest in the games, are ass holes and got cranky because the moderators don't put up with their crap, the rules are just fine as they are and do not need to be changed. Even though I would appreciate a lift of the teen rating and making it mature just enforcing things more so every thread isn't turned into a smut fest for 13 year old children. I mean you need to be at least 17 to even go to Bethesda's website then why is the forums teen rating? Not judging the rules or anything just honestly wondering because I'm not sure.

I'm not your buddy and if anything this thread is going to get locked because its going to turn into a flame war. This forum would go down hill quick if the rules were reeled back or lessened. They have lasted this long without them and they have done just fine for themselves, try being here when they were first starting and everything was laid back. It was a nightmare and most people left because of the status of the forums. If anything the rules are keeping people here that actually want to be mature about things and driving the others away.

Basically this, to answer your question, OP. Basically everything that needs saying about these games has already been said somewhere. But most of the time a thread about a specific topic stays up. There is a reason official suggestions threads on the TES and Fallout forums are some of the biggest ones, because a lot of people have things to say about future games. Best to keep it in one place for organization I suppose.

This has been discussed many times.
Fallout 4 (or the next TES game) have not been announced. We don't even know if they will ever exist.
This means that all discussion on future games are random suggestions and ideas of all sorts... If the forum had a new thread for every random idea it would be a mess and the ideas would be lost. We keep them all in one thread so people know where to discuss these topics.

It may not be a perfect system, but it keeps everything organized and is much easier for people to discuss things.
I hope that answered your questions.

Want to see what "no rules" looks like? Go to YouTube comments. It's rare anything productive or positive ever happens.

And, as often is the case, the thread will be closed because of where some people are taking the thread, not necessarily because of the OP.

If anyone has a concern or question about Bethesda's rules it's best to contact an Admin. Or one of us moderators and we will answer the best we can, or pass it along to the Admins.
