Should we even be expecting a patch?

Post » Tue Nov 04, 2014 6:38 pm

I have been playing through the game on my Xbox One and have been enjoying it for the most part. Currently at chapter 11 I believe. Anyway, my biggest complaint is the technical issues. The frame rate is atrocious, the textures are a joke, character models look like they're from the PS2 era, numerous bugs and glitches. Long story short, this game needs a large patch badly.

Unfortunately, I've read that Bethesda is known for not being kind to their console fans and we probably won't ever get a patch/update for these numerous technical issues. So, with that said, can we at least expect one patch to fix some of these glaring issues or are we just complaining to a wall here? Has Bethesda said anything about working on a patch?

Gstaff mentioned they were looking into http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1509629-stuttering-lag-even-when-its-running-at-constant-60-fps/?p=23811164

So, I'd expect more updates.

Specially with three DLC packs planned, there will be compatibility updates for the DLC. So, there should be more game fixes and updates along the way.

Hey, guys!

Just signed up to these forums today, first of all I have to say that I have greatly enjoyed my time with "The Evil Within" (PS4 version) I have completed the game on survival difficulty already, but, continue to enjoy the game playing on NEW GAME+ and using Chapter Select to go back and collect green gel to continue upgrading everything and obviously try and get any trophies I missed.

However, as many people have already pointed out this game still badly needs some work and fine tuning, personally I think the game is so good it actually "deserves" a good patch (or two) to improve overall performance as much as possible.

As for the black borders that many people complain about, I'm not to fussed about them personally (used to them) but I do think the option to turn them on/off would be greatly appreciated and is the best way to please all customers, always nice to have different options.

So come on Devs, don't let this game die and leave it as it is, keep working on this game and improve all those performance issue's (poor frame rate etc.) as much as you possibly can.

I'm hoping to buy all the DLC that comes out for this game, but, have held off of buying the season pass until I see how keen you (the Devs) are at fixing the main game.

It depends who's in direct control of the patch. If it's the dev's, then maybe, all dev's should have pride in their game, if it's the publishers, then probably not, and their patches usually break as much as they fix because the patches are no more tested than their games. They're not even patches, they're major game updates. The borders will remain probably, because as they have stated it's not that they can't remove them, they won't remove them on console.

What bugs/glitches?

Game has been pretty smooth experience for me. Didn't really notice any framerate problems, textures and models seem good.

Really? So, your frame rate is a perfect 30 during intense cut scenes? Textures are good? Look at Kidman's face. There is absolutely no detail on her face. She looks like a mannequin.

I've only done up to chapter ten, any specific scene in those chapters you can think of that should give me a FPS drop?

It's a dark game, so textures seemed about right. Although I'm usually to busy running away from stuff to look at the finer details of things.

The last thing I just figured was the Japanese style, still not comparable to PS2.

I can't remember what chapter, but it's at the very beginning of the game. There is a large group of The Haunted coming at Seb and Seb is trapped and the only way to escape is by jumping in the water. So, he jumps in the water. There are also some explosions in that cut scene if I remember correctly. Anyway, that cut scene was one of the worst in terms of frame rate drop.

As for the character models, just watch the opening cut scene with everybody in the police car. With the exception of Seb, there is barely any detail on any of the character faces. This game is definitely not an example of "next gen".

Ya I would like to know what needs to be patched? I beat the game 3 times and have not ran into any issues what so ever on the Xbox 360 version. The only issue I ran into was an enemy getting stuck in the floor, which honestly isn't a bad thing because he couldn't attack me.

Also to the OP where did you hear about Bethesda not patching their games? Because I've played every game that Bethesda has ever made and if their was an issue they patched it and the patch did fix a lot of issues. Plus I don't believe that they made the game they just published it so its not really their game to patch. Although I could be wrong about that I know that I haven't had any technical issues with the game and I think it is a good candidate for game of the year.

That cut-scene is the end of Chapter 2. Which played perfectly fine for me, as all cut-scenes do.

Chapter 3, for me, has the lowest performance. With the frame rate set at 60, Ch.3 averages around 30 almost completely. Only going higher when inside buildings.

The rest of the game averages between 40 to 50 which is perfectly playable.

The character models look great. Yes, there are games with more detailed characters in them... but that doesn't change the fact that they still look great in TEW.

And really, this whole "next gen" crap is tired. Specially since this game never claimed to be any form of a technical or visual achievement. They weren't trying to break ground visually with TEW. And... no game has.

There has not been a single "next gen" game released yet, and won't be for some time. It's going to take a long time before developers really learn the ins and outs of the new consoles. But, here's the kicker... it's not "next gen" because they are the current generation of consoles. They stopped being next gen the day they were released.
