I want to start a Let's Play series of Morrowind. I started one out, and I got generally great feedback about how I presented it, the quality, voice to game effects ratio, etc.

But people really seemed bothered by the smallest little things, and denounced from ever watching it again until I correct them. I mean, from little things like deviating from pure RP at all, to saying things like "Man that texture looks great", or simple little things like that.

So, I guess my question is, what kind of let's plays do people generally like? I can't do a "noob" lets play of Morrowind. I have played the game since 2002; it just isn't possible. I know literally everything about the game, and I know where everything is. I simply can't pretend like an idiot and walk around saying "OOOH WHAT'S THIS!1???" because frankly, I know what it is, 100%.

So how do I do an LP when I am a pure veteran of the game, but still want people to enjoy it and watch?

I had a few ideas, like making a preset character and going through each Main Quest and immersing myself in that only. Like, I'd have a "Let's Play: ES III: Morrowind - Bloodmoon" and then a "Let's Play: ES III: Morrowind - Tribunal" and I'd do those and all the main and side quests and pretty much all the content offered in each. I'd do one for the main quest as well, but not all the side quest of coarse, that'd be absurd, as that's the entire game. But just focus on the MW MQ.

Everyone likes different stuff and people on the internet can be really snobbish. Don't worry about the individuals they'll either watch or not. Instead focus on having fun yourself.

Basically: You can't make everyone happy and the Internet gives everyone a voice.

Don't do a solo Let's Play of a game you've played before, simply because it won't be particularly entertaining. Much of a solo Let's Play's entertainment value and humor come from the player's unfamiliarity with it, assuming they haven't played it before. If you've played the game already, there won't be nearly as much for the audience to be entertained with.

I have only one criteria.... The player is having fun.

(and that I have an interest in the game, of course)

Most people who do LP's have previously played the game though. I'd wager..90%. Of the dozens of LP'ers I've seen on Youtube.

I did watch yours, and those who criticized about the role playing thing were nit picking as you did pretty much say your only piece of role playing was a name that fit.

That said, my only critism (and take this constructively) is don't comment on how awesome the game looks. First, it is hard to tell on a stream. Second, if you are worried about how good it looks and want to make that a focus, just do a review on the graphics mods you are using. Or just briefly mention what you are using at the start of each episode as a quick reminder for the audience.

Other than that I found it enjoyable and would probably watch more episodes as your enthusiasm was apparent and you had a good sense of humor throughout for those who have played the game before.

While one person likes one thing there's always two people who don't like it, it always seems. But the chances are if you enjoy the way you're playing then others most likely do to. I don't make videos and I don't often watch them but I wouldn't go about altering my playing style in order to please others. You're bound to annoy the people who do like your original style if you do that. There's also the matter where if you're not doing what you want to enjoy the game it will get old very fast and you won't play it anymore. Or you'll just go back to your original style.

In other words, keep to your style and disregard the naysayers. The ones that like it will watch, and the ones that don't won't watch. It's about you having fun, not about you making every person happy. Unfortunately they usually stop watching after typing up a strongly worded comment on how you're doing everything wrong. These types of people usually comment more often than the ones who do like your stuff, so put very little merit in that and the comments.

The most important rule for me is that the let's player is having tonnes of fun playing the game since that shows in the outcome. If you are not in the mood for it at the time then take a small break. Some let's players try to cut games into chapters and then take time off after a chapter and then come back when in the mood.

Have fun with it, I don't care if your singing the whole time. Just as long as your having fun, if your enjoying yourself then I will enjoy myself.

Whenever posting videos, especially 'Let's Play' videos, you leave yourself open for the drudges of the youtube community to come and judge and criticize every minuscule thing you do or don't do. You could possibly have the best Morrowind 'Let's Play' video out there but countless people will find some fault in it and try turning into something that would actually matter.

To make an enjoyable Let's Play is rather simple. Be yourself, have fun, and try to speak consistently, and clearly. Also make sure you have decent recording equipment. Recently I have started a Morrowind let's play, and haven't received too much feedback. But from my experience watching let's plays for several years now, I would say that what I previously mentioned is extremely important into creating quality videos.

People say dont do an lp of a game youve played bc the enthusiasm wont be there..i couldn't disagree more. Bc Morrowind is my favorite game of all time. I am VERY enthusiastic about it bc i love it so much!

I'm looking forward to it, hopefully it will help me get into Morrowind.

Some let's players might use some mods that changes some quests or other things to help keep it fresh. The issue is that some of the players might not sound like they are having fun since they have done the same content hundreds of times.

But if you are having fun it will show.

I might take a look at your lets play as well as one of the other posters when I have the chance and have the bandwidth to spare to watch a vid.

I'd say the best advice I can give as a frequent viewer of Let's Plays is figure out what you do best. By that I mean, if you are naturally serious or have an awkward sense of humor, then play it straight, focus on informative commentary. Honestly, that's the best thing you can do for a game you're very familiar with, if you ask me. Blind Let's Plays are better for people prone to exaggerated reactions. That sort of thing. Figure out your niche and stick to it.

As for comments, ignore them. Seriously. People are totally out of touch, and you can't please everyone. Seriously, you're gonna get people who unsub on every video. Focus on people as numbers. Even if five people unsub, then count how many new subs you're getting or whether your videos get more likes than dislikes.

Lastly, if you want to be successful... Honestly, there's better games than Morrowind. Shorter games are usually better, if you ask me. Something like Morrowind can really start to drag on. If you're doing it to have fun, then that's great. But your post seems to imply that you want more subs, so there it is. Also, recognize that you're jumping into a saturated market. The amount of competition you have is steep, and PewdiePie and Markiplier are never gonna happen again.

I'm definitely not one to really exaggerate my reactions. I'm more witty with a awkward sense of humor, in my personal opinion. Others might see differently haha.
