This mod is my attempt to make playing as a warrior in Oblivion a little less boring. Before I begin to describe it, I just want to mention 2 things:
- I have absolutely no real world experience with medieval weapons
- Therefore, this mod is not intended to be a "realistic" combat overhaul
Dealing damage
The main problem as I see it is that all weapons are essentially the same, be it a sword, axe or mace - you hit things and they do set amount of damage. The second problem for me is that combat is too long and most things take way too many hits to kill. So, with the changes I made I try to fix these 2 problems.
All damage dealt by all weapons is multiplied by 2.
Weapons are divided into the following subcategories:
-
Blade
-
Daggers\Shorswords
- Can backstab* for 300% damage
- Power-attacking sleeping target while being undetected kills in 1 hit
- Deal only half damage against highly armored targets
-
Longswords
- can backstab* for 200% damage
-
Two-handed swords
- Deal 200% damage against unarmored or lightly armored targets
- Deal 150% damage against spectral targets (if the weapon ignores normal weapon resistanse, of course)
-
Spears
- undecided
* any attack made from behind the opponent (about 45 degrees angle) is considered a backstab. Spectral targets (i.e. Ghosts, Wisps and so on) are immune.
-
Blunt
-
One-handed maces
- 200% damage against skeletal enemies
- 50 % damage against spectral enemies
-
One-handed axes
- 200% damage against spriggans and gnarls
- 40% armor penetration
- can backstab for 150% damage
-
Two-handed axes
- 200% damage against spriggans and gnarls
- 40% armor penetration
-
Two-handed warhammers
- Chance to knock down
- 200% damage against skeletal enemies
- 50 % damage against spectral enemies
-
Quaterstaffs
- Reduced damage
- Do fatigue damage, similar to hand-to-hand attacks
-
Archery
- 90 % damage reduction against skeletal enemies
- 65% armor penetration
- 50% extra damage
- Archery loses the above bonuses and gets 75% damage reduction at close range
- Elevated position confers up to 30% extra damage.
Special feature: Skyrim-style bow zoom
- Zooming with bow now slows down time a little + I added breathing sounds to zoom.

Note: not all of the above features are available in Beta.
The main reason I'm posting it here is to test the weapon type detection mechanism with mod-added weapons. If you're interested, try it out and tell me if it detected the weapon types correctly (especially the Blunt weapons subtypes).
Weapon type will be displayer in your inventory, inside standard popup menu.
