Windows Patch Causing System Lockups

Post » Thu Nov 13, 2014 3:49 am

My computer started locking up today whenever I had an application with sound running. The entire system hangs up, and a high pitched sound comes from the speakers (not from my case, CPU/GPU/PSU, or other hardware) and when I turn the speakers off, the sound disappears. But I can't use my system and have to restart.

I've tested it with Youtube (on Chrome) and Spotify. I couldn't go 1 minute without my computer locking up. After a couple of restarts, I realized the only thing that chnaged with my system was there was a Windows update earlier today, which was successfully installed. When I used system restore to rollback my PC to before I installed this, the issue disappeared.

My question is this, why would some windows patches cause this error? http://i.imgur.com/4TIe4VK.png.

Do you use Windows 8.1 ???

If i go home, i try it myself and report back.

Do you have a dedicated sound card, or do you use your on-board sound chip ???

Hello, friend!

I knew I forgot to mention some important details! :stare: I use windows 7 64-bit, and am using a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer soundcard, with the latest drivers.
