What was this game attempting to be?

I'm in a suspenseful atmohsphere in the beginning and then there are zombies n such in the early chapters. Much like RE4. Which...hey..awesome game then.. something that pays homage to that I am completely up for. But now I'm on chapter 12 and zombies are shooting at me with sniper rifles? Then I get a first aid pack for my Joseph and a [censored] ARMORED CAR and a TURRET show up? Both controlled by zombies? I understand the possession deal to an extent but I feel like I've gone from a freddy krueger film into a [censored] Die Hard film.

The game feels like it worked so hard to be a horror game and was doing a pretty good job and now I feel like I'm playing gears of war. Sigh... great game until this chapter. It's disappointing too. I was having a pretty good time up until this point.

To be fair, I know Resident Evil got a little gun crazy in 4 but it didn't seem too over the top (except for the zombie with the minigun..jesus christ... ) But this just...It really just feels like an action game. I've no idea what the goal of the games theme is anymore.

Sorry guys. I simply had to rant about this. It feels like the Triple A gaming industry at it's best in the sense of they don't really know how to appeal to certain audiances and just go for the bulk, much like RE6's failure.

So close devs....... so close.

I completely agree. This game has a bad case of identity crisis which becomes more apparent the further you progress through chapters of the game. From horror to action-packed, The Evil Within follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil making the same mistakes. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the game. Such a shame but maybe if Tango is lucky enough to work on a sequel, they'll wright their wrongs.

Enemies in Resident Evil 4 are living humans injected with a parasite that controls their minds, there are no zombies in that game.

I believe you are taking zombies in it's modern day definition. While we typically know zombies as undead shamblers (or in a lot of other media entertainment, basically people with a severe case of rabies), zombies originate from voodoo origins and were basically people who were under a mind control type of spell. So I wasn't necessarily incorrect.

I wholeheartedly agree. Tango needs to stop with the triple A ideas and follow through on it's identity. Not make an attempt to appeal to the largest audiance. Thus, why I brought up the train wreck that was RE6. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

There are myths of mindlessness in voodoo religion, but origins include undead in both, physical and non-physical forms, so yeah, voodoo has undead zombies too. :)
