The Perfect Character and the Quest for a Cure (Restartitis)

Post » Mon Nov 17, 2014 5:18 am

Ok here it is. I am using this thread as therapy. By recording this here, I am hereby declaring that this latest character I have will finally finish the main quest and cure my restartitis. I've played this game for 3 years and have never finished the main quest or gotten a character to level 50. This is the character where I finally accomplish my unfinished goals in Skyrim. Here is the character:

Race: Altmer

Name: Stoso Somos

Stone: Mage then Ritual

Armor: custom enchanted chitin

Weapons: custom enchanted daggers

Main spells: All destruction and wards

Skills: One-handed, Smithing, Enchanting, Destruction, Restoration

Perks: http://skyrimcalculator.com/build/397943/stoso-somos/perks

These are things this character must accomplish for me to cure my restartitis:

Destruction 100 and the Blizzard spell. Ever since the game came out, I always wanted to make use of this spell, but it is difficult, because of the high level needed and the magic resist glitch. This character has no magic resistance, so my blizzard spell should be effective.

Using wards: I've always loved the look of wards and they are maybe my favorite spell in Skyrim. But I have never had a character that could truly rock the ward due to it eating up my magicka or not being able to get the ward absorb perk. This character pledges to heavily train restoration and will get the ward absorb perk at level 60 in restoration. There is no failure this time because enchanting! At early levels my restoration cost will be reduced with enchanting, making wards viable.

The need for speed: In Oblivion I loved gaining speed and agility with athletics and acrobatics. Why, Bethesda? Why does everyone run and jump equally well in Skyrim? I've tried making lots of characters with no armor and I like alteration a lot, but guess what: casting flesh spells slows you down. Precious time is wasted when I could be rushing into battle. This character will use the lightest light armor: chitin, and make use of the fastest melee weapons: daggers. Power attacks are only used as a finishing move. Whirlwind sprint and slow time will enhance his abilities.

Enchanting, a substitute for spell-making. The best thing in Oblivion was spell-making. Why oh why, Bethesda....oh nevermind. Putting dual-effects on daggers and dual wielding them will be my spell-making. I will carry a huge assortment of elven daggers for any situation. Against undead: (fire damage + turn undead), Against mages: (ward in LH, RH dagger with shock damage and absorb magicka), Against dragons: (Damage stamina + damage magicka) just to name a few combos.

So this is it, I'm finally gonna do this! I will keep a diary of this character here in this thread and hopefully some of you will find it interesting. Please give me encouraging comments.

PS- if someone says, "Your character will be overpowered by level 25 and you will be bored by then", I think I might start crying.

I feel you, I used to suffer from really bad restartitis, sometimes I wouldn't even get to level 20 before making a new one. :P Fingers crossed that you reach your goal now! :D

Easy fix is to simply increase the difficulty if the game becomes too easy for ya (or if you like it that way, who cares). :)

Just have fun playing the game.

In my opinion Bethesda's game are not meant to finish the main quest but to make your own adventure in the world and explore and climb every mountain. Damn now I have that song in my head and picturing Julie Andrews singing in the mountains.

If this were true then Bethesda wouldn't make a main quest, but use a style of create your own adventure.

But you are free to take the game as you like, should you wish not to do a single quest, it is in your power to do so.

That being said, I have not touched Skyrim since june, i think i will return to it.

Good luck, friend. Restart disease is the main reason I haven't played Skyrim since January. I couldn't even make a character that got past level 8, T'was sad indeed.

The amount of times restarted on this game because it has a lack of depth and complexity is staggering sometimes.

You have to be really into a character and even then getting them to lvl 50 is a slog.

Good luck on your quest to level 50! It looks like a well-thought-out plan.

Now it's stuck in my head, too! It's also kind of funny considering Christopher Plummer voices a character at the top of one of those mountains. :)

I too am big on athletics and acrobatics, not that I enjoyed oblivion at all but having them as improvable categories would be great to have in tes6. In skyrim I satisfy this need to have my character be a superior athlete by levelling up stamina almost exclusively, at least then I'm never forced to do the sluggish run in situations where speed would be utilised by an athletic character. I also level up sneak, even if the character isn't a sneak, to get the roll so I can use it stylishly in combat, and I aim to get blocking perks like slow time and the one where you can run with your shield raised and I get the I get the 1h perk where you can run up and jump attack, etc etc, all aiming to improve my character's ability to move and I do usually feel like my character is athletic and agile after getting all this stuff.

However not a lot of this is very compatible with your character, your heavy reliance on magicka will mean you can't afford to level stamina which is really the most important part of creating an athlete imo. I'm glad I have no interest in magic, because it would really bug me to have low stamina due to the limitations it puts on athleticism, in a lot of ways really.
