Discrimination at Stores?

I've come across several cashiers that had an attitude problem. I just either avoid that store or that person while I'm in there if possible.

I work as a cashier, i try to be nice to everybody, the sheer amount of people who just blank me when trying to make conversation as if i am beneath them is disgusting, the discrimination works both ways.

I may be behind a till, but i have a HNC in electronic engineering AND i am on a game development course, but no, they see a guy behind a till and assume he is a lowlife.

As for the OP, if anybody behaved like that where i work, they would be swiftly fired.

Yes, you probably should have. But it isn't wrong to have not done it either. There was no onus on you to do anything at all, yet you did. However, you treated the symptom, not the problem. Should of gotten the cashier sacked.

I would have read that store owner the riot act. What a jerk. Makes me mad just reading your post - can't imagine how I would have reacted in person.

I'm more perplexed by stamps of all things being refused just because of someone's disability. Sorry for seeming nearly emotionless towards this matter, but anger and outrage already was mentioned. Are stamps that cashier's sign of approval, perhaps? I'd say you did the right thing, though.

Wouldn't be surprised if that guy lost his job eventually considering that probably wasn't the last time he did that nor the first time.

Most people at stores who are rude normally don't last very long there. If they get way too many complaints and customers claiming to go some where else. Yes, they will fire that employee.

Look at Wal-Mart and Macdonalds; they go through employee's like a baby goes through diapers. You get jerk off employee's that get fired, but also you get good people who get jerked around at those places and fired too for terrible reasons. Sometimes it is management to blame, and I mean literally.

I got into an argument with a lady because her husband worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years and still does and he's a manager. He's just one of the few that hasn't been fired yet. I worked there for 3 years and was at risk of being fired for stupid reasons. Sometimes corporations will replace an employee for financial reasons. If someone is getting paid too much with benefits and the business can hire someone to do that job for 7.25 an hour with no benefits for a year; instead of paying some one 10 dollars an hour with benefits. Well, lets say the person applying is in luck.
