Accidentally messed up all electrical switches!

Post » Sat Nov 22, 2014 10:36 pm

I made an error when I placed an Electrical Switch in Megtaon house. I forgot to make a new form for my new switch. I put a light switch script on it and then all other Electrical Switches in the game everywhere vanishwhen they're toggled. Reaslising my mistake I copied the default Electrical Switch as a new form and replaced the Electrical Switch in my cell with the new one (called MegatonLightSwitch). Then I removed the light switch script from Electrical Switch.

Now whenever I find an Electrical Switch in the game, ones that the Bethesda level designers put in, I can't use them - they don't disapear now which is good but now they don't even do what Bethesda desgined them to do in the game!

How do I fix this?

Well if you haven't done to much work in the mod , I would just junk it and start over.

But the geck creates backups you can roll back to. You can find them inside your Fallout3/Data/Backup folder.

Listed with your "ModName.esp.0.bak" then progressivley "ModName.esp.1.bak" 2,3,4 etc ...

They have a date and time also.

So to use these , you just need to remove the extension past .esp , then place them in your Data folder with the other .esp's

Although if you don't rename or remove the current .esp by that name ... I think it will overwrite it. So change the name slightley.

Also it seems some people cannot use these .bak files ... but thanks to a forum user "MindBoggles"

They said if you place it on your desktop from the back up folder then move it to the data folder from there ... it does work.

That's good to know Mktavish thanks, it should come handy.

I actually managed to fix the problem myself by clicking on the Details button for my plug-in and then pressed Delete on the Electrical Swtich object in the list. Since I no longer had one in my cell I figured this was hanging around because I stuck that script on it. Anyway I did that and closed the Geck and started the game and now all Electrical Switches function correctly and my Megaton house switch still functions as a light switch.

Problem solved!
