The Alaskan Reclamation & Gobi Campaign

Post » Sun May 16, 2010 12:37 pm

Along with the very interesting twist of the one-day (two hours, more accurately) Great War, Fallout undoubtedly has a one of the richest game backstories about one way that our future could have turned out, including the epic battles between China and America. Little hints about these things (in this case I'm talking specifically about the Alaskan Reclamation) have been dropped, a little heavier in the Fallout 3 DLC. Wouldn't it be awesome if the developers came together to make an actual short movie about it, filled with action of the Power Armored (and in the beginning, non-Power Armored) U.S. heavy infantry versus the stealthy Chinese military? I know the Bethesda artists have got talent, and they could make something truly awesome here, going from tiny references in computer terminals to all-out in-your-face action of the pre-war battles, both Alaska and Gobi Desert.

If nothing else, SOMEONE's gotta make a movie about this. It could begin with the action-packed Gobi and Alaskan campaigns, and then show some footage of the nuclear bombardment, finally leading up to the future of a protagonist (or antagonist, or even better, have two main characters in the same timeline, one going down the good-karma road and one down the bad-karma road and eventually meeting in an epic clash). It could kind of be like the Get Smart movie compared to the old, black-and-white Get Smart series, having a mostly different storylines, but keeping many familiar characters and having lots of references to the Fallout games (e.g. Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle in the beginning of the movie, and lots of vaults after the War). PLEASE. I would just love to see anything of the sort.

I dont think they are planning on making a movie or revealing any of the past.

I expect Styles to be here soon, and throw Ron Perlman Narration quotes at you.

Fallout is based on the movie 'a boy and his dog' so I don't think they will make a movie about a game that is based on a movie if you catch my drift. What they could do however is make an animated movie but those are always less profitable so I don't really see them making that either :(

Sorry I am late

Parablooper, you are right the great war only lasted two hours. One problem I noticed about your idea is that America had long since won back Alaska from China by the time of the Great War. America was invading China and they had made it all the way to the Yangtze River in the Heart of China.

No Ron Perlman quotes but for this one: " In two brief hours most of the planet was reduced to cinders and from the ashes of nuclear devastation a new civilization would struggle to arise."

I wouldn't mind a CGI cinimatic about the Sino-American War, it would be awesome to get some more information on that conflict.

It'd also be cool to see a little bit of pre-war American too.

Dont be late, your awesome theories (especially your awesome one about the MWBoS) always are awesome and silence the unknowedgeable, or educate them, but the other way sounds better.

What bout that Ron Perlman quote about the details are trivial and pointless, that one is totally useable here.

"The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons as always, purely human ones."

you are right it is usable here. It is how I feel about knowing about who started the Great War, "who shot first." A little more detail about the Sino-American War would be good, just as long as it does not go into great detail about who started the Great War.

To me the details are trivial and poinltess. We know why it happened. "too many humans and not enough space or resources to go around." "War, war never changes." And as always the reason were purely human ones.

It doesn't have to be a continuous timeline. Like any movie, you can (although this is just a bad, stereotype example) show a scene, say "ten years later," show another scene, show the bombing, say "two hours later," show the absolute destruction, THEN say "hundred and bla bla bla years later," and THEN show a Courier/Chosen One in the post-apocalyptic world. As in, show awesome battle scenes in Alaska (and Yangtze and Gobi), and then skip some time to the Great War.

Of course, this is all just wishful thinking.

I agree it would be a cool idea. But yeah it is kinda just wishful thinking, the only way I could see Bethesda doing something like this is if it was a promotional gimick for a new game or something, since to do it right would cost some bucks.

They should do an Animatrix type of backstory thing. The History of the World anime on the Animatrix was terrifying and made the world of the Matrix make much, much more sense.

However mystery always keeps things interesting too, so it's tough to say.

Anything like this is going to be handled out of house.. ( not Mr House ) and be a possible / potential massive Fubar.
I'd love them exploring these events and others inside a game, with flash backs, mini movies, tv's playing news footage and film propaganda.

Movie shorts or tv shows here irl, written up between Bioware and some team of script writters / editors no way, it'll likely be very bad.
Can you just see the first romance scene in your mind.. as the ratings slump and they think looking to appeal to some group or another to boost it.
