Alienware 17 windows 8.1 Overhaul 3.0......help!

Hi I have the above mentioned laptop and PC Gamer version of GOTY Morrowind. I installed clean Morrowind on Windows 8.1 (64-bit) using compatability for windows 7 since Overhaul''s docs mention windows 7(64) and overhaul installer shows up windows 7 on compatibility tab. I put all required files in Morrowind folder. I even downloaded all the things it asks to download with internet hookup as you install it and everything was green lights all the way to end when it generates distant land. I notice there are 17 errors(?). The installation ignores this and completes saying that I can play. I've tried to launch with a variety of windows compatabilities, but each time it crashes soon as load screen appears ( do I launch with the original launcher). In Morrowind folder there is a file called Morrowind.Original.exe, which lets me play with all the installed mods at 1600X900 but there is no MGE-XE. Anyone else install correctly with Windows 8.1? Should I try to install Morrowind with Morrowind setup.exe compatibility at windows xp (service pack 3)? Also all .exe files are set for administrator Even the original setup.exe even though it was installed to the program(86). and what about the 4 gig patch, can someone explain that. Do I install that because I have windows 8(64) and 8 gigs memory to utilize all 8 gigs or because I can't have 8 gigs because i'm in the program(86) folder and only 3.5 gigs are being used. Does installing as 32-bit limit your memory to 3.5 gigs? Anyway I would appreciate some help.
