Startup issue Windows 8.1 (Gamebryo renderer)

Hi all.

For the last couple of weeks I've started playing Fallout 3 again (CD version, non-Steam) without any problems on my laptop (Lenovo y510p non-SLI, Windows 8.0). On installation I followed the instructions on the forum to change the fallout.ini file, install into the C:\Games directory and I updated GFWL. It all worked fine and I played for weeks without crashes or anything. However, since I updated my OS to Windows 8.1 last weekend I cannot start the game anymore. Even after removing and reinstalling the game, and again updating GFWL and changing the .ini file I get the following error when I launch the game:

"Failed to initialize renderer. Unknown error creating the Gamebryo Renderer."

I've tried several things, including: running the game as administrator, enabling compatibility mode (windows 7, windows XP SP3), made sure that my nVidia video card was set as the default graphic processor for both the fallout launcher and fallout.exe, but no solution.

Does anyone have an idea what could be the issue here? Thanks in advance.

Did you update your graphics driver?
