Fallout 4 Speculation, Suggestions and Ideas # 235

Post » Fri Dec 05, 2014 9:06 am

I think if BGS announces their new game anytime during the first 4 months of 2015, we are probably still good for a 4th quarter release. While Skyrim was announced December 2010, they really didn't show anything other than a nicely rendered rune wall connecting Tamriel lore with the premise of the game. It was two or three months before we saw any in game action. Todd Howard has stated they would not announce anything about their new game until they really had something to show. (German interview in May or June this year if I remember right).

During that 11 month period before the Skyrim release it seemed to me that the forums got pretty snarky at times, as people started dissecting the game based on whatever limited info was released ( look what we do during the current vacuum). While I don't think it impacted sales in the long run, it's kind of hard to spin a positive promo, when the critics are constant; the social webs are quite immediate. To me a concentrated marketing push might make more sense, say 4-5 months long. Less distractions for devs who are finishing up and those leading the official hype train. I'm also speculating that a larger effort is being made to reduce the bug count at release. They took it on the chin with the PS3 problems, which meant re-budgeting to rework the game product already released as opposed to profit generating DLC.

I actually like what they did with the latest Dragon Age Inquisition. They had a feature called the Keep, in which you could choose and change past choices made in the earlier games. This allows you to move platforms or even skip the older games if you don't feel like playing through them over again to make new decisions.

However that is a large feature, for a game series like Fallout, and I don't see something like that being added to the series. It would be nice to craft your own world but how much impact will it really have?

I didn't mean something as big as let's say MQ alterations (though it would be nice). Like one of the choices in Witcher - doing one of the quests in I act in a certain way caused one of the NPCs from II act to get killed. He was a trader and quest giver. His sidequest was rather minor, but it still felt nice to have even some impact on the gameworld.

Since Bethesda Game Studios will not show Fallout 4 at The Game Awards, there is a chance that Bethesda Game Studios will show off Fallout 4 at the VGX's. Do the VGX's still exist? Or did Geoff Keighly replace it with The Game Awards?

Fallout 4 can possibly still be shown in 2015, after all Todd Howard said he wants to have a shorter time when he announces a video game and releases it for sale.

Spike offically announced they were ending the VGAs/VGX, and that none would be held this year.

Geoff "Dorito Pope" Keighly made his own show, The Game Awards, to replace it unoffically.

I think Bethesda Game Studios will show off Fallout 4 at E3 2015 and have Fallout 4 released for sale on either October 2015 or November 2015.

Possibility Fallout 4 gets released for sale in 2016 either early 2016 or by June 2016. Holidays 2016 is also possible. Who knows.

I would suspect they would keep in line with both Fo3 and NV, and relase the game sometime in october, near the day the great war happened.

Just in case someone tries to start up a playstation rumor, they won't be showing up there either but I'm sure we all knew that haha. https://twitter.com/mr_maser/status/540641274684928000

Funnily enough, that's the sort of vague double-speak that's gotten him into trouble before. Saying 'stop listening to rumors' doesn't mean 'no.' Not that I'm saying it means anything; in fact I'm 100% certain this event will not involve any announcement.

They've said they want a shorter period between announcement and release, so I'd guess 6-7 months, seeing as Skyrim was 11. Anything longer than 8 months and it seems too small a difference to bother mentioning it.

Also, I recall that they've never been fond of E3 because the attention is spread between too many things - not just games but entertainment generally. I believe they'd do it at a more focused event where they're gauranteed to have all eyes on them, and not just be crammed into a [censored] 3 minute slot on Microsoft or Sony's presentation, between 20 other developers.

Much like Rockstar and Blizzard they prefer to throw their weight around dominate whatever venue/setting they're in, which is why using their own event (either Quakecon or an entirely new one) isn't off the table. Hell, for all we know there'll be a 'Bethcon' announcement out of the blue. They certainly have a big enough fanbase - bigger than Blizzcon when it first started.

I would rather that Beth rebuild the previous busted games to working order, than make another busted game.

Quakecon happens near the end of July 2015. That's a bit iffy for a reveal assuming BGS continues with their 4th qtr release date pattern. Good spot for a game demo though, which is what they did with Skyrim. Agree though that Beth. could create their own PR event anytime they wish.... a possibility that isn't discussed much.
