Yes. They wear armors that only female player characters can wear. Something must have gone wrong when you installed it.

Dazu I admit your answer isn't clear. In my OOO install Amazon are in underwear. ISn't that supposed to be the 'normal behaviour'?

May I ask where is OOO's readme? I admit that inside my main archive there is nothing <.<

For OOO 1.35, the readme is in the "OOO Add-ons" archive. The readme itself is for 1.33, but seems that most of it's contents still apply to 1.35.

Has anyone ever made a patch for OOO that removes Amazons entirely, or at least gives them less horrible armor? Certain aspects of OOO sound appealing to me (hand placed loot), but there's so many things that look/sound terrible that I've never given it a try.

Not to my knowledge.

What people do, because it's so doable, is just choose not to install OOO and instead achieve the changes they want piecemeal with other mods.

It's really better this way, too. OOO is a comprehensive change. You either like it or lump it. Many many other mods are smaller, more compartmentable.

I'm aware of that, however I haven't been able to find any mods that handplace loot other than OOO.

Frans and Warcry do, though not nearly as much as OOO. If you're just looking for hand-placed loot containers, you could try http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/44066/, http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/42151/, and/or Better Dungeons.

I remember somebody asking about removing Amazons from OOO many years ago. But I don't recall if anybody ever did anything about it. A glance at the Nexus tells me that apparently they didn't.

Is it mainly the armor you don't like? If so, it ought to be possible to give them different armor in the CS.

Less the containers, more actual items. Like Morrowind? Or Morrowloot for Skyrim? I played with Frans for quite a while and never saw a hand placed item. Chests maybe, I really couldn't say, but no items.

Or I could do a mesh replacer I guess. They just seem really out of place in such a civilized area. I'd expect them in Valenwood, or Skyrim maybe. But they seem a bit out of place in 3rd era Cyrodiil.

I also thought the amazons were a bit an odd choice to add. But I like them anyway. Better than just bandits everywhere. There are armors on tesnexus that would fit them nicely, though they are only available for certain body replacers.

Yes, 'odd choice' is surely the right combination of words.

Yeah, Frans doesn't really do items. I don't know many mods that do a range of items like OOO; most are "item mods" that place those specific items (Phitt's Artifacts, e.g.).

I've been using Phitt's artifacts for a long time, and I'm happy with it. I'm just greedy and want more, but not randomized loot chests, because the RGN as a general rule hates me. Here's the boss chest! It contains 5 gold and an iron claymore!

It's not like they are roaming the roads. They are spawned into grottos and you'll see very few outside. You can avoid them. You're missing a great experience by skipping this gem of an overhaul for the looks of a minority IMHO.

I tried all the overhauls (Fran, WarCry, MMM, FCOM), I always come back to OOO. I recently started a new playthough, and even if I've played this game with OOO way too much, this new character still feels fresh.

That's not the only thing keeping me from OOO. There's other things (like how it messes with magic, and how there's more enemies added, not just variety of them but many more in an area than usual, and people complaining about performance hits cause by that to name a few..) that make me uneasy about using it, and I'm happy with Maskar's.

I'd just like more random/useful treasure to find that are not leveled loot chests from someplace. And I don't think switching overhauls because you like one thing it does makes any more sense than avoiding a mod because it does one thing you don't like. Right now the good things I know about to bad things I'm worried about ratio is not exactly making me favor adding OOO. But if you want to try and sell me on it go ahead.

To each his own man. But for what it's worth, I used to run a rather heavily modded Oblivion on an Opteron 165 @ 2.3, 4gb and a nvidia 7800gt (512mb!). So long as I stayed away from heavy graphics mod, it was definitely smooth enough. Granted, in some areas I got some FPS hit, but then again, it was worth it and manageable. In any case, I'd trade beautification for gameplay any time of the day. But OOO is what I was looking for: you start as a whelp (as you should :P), and after a long journey, you're a "seasoned adventurer" that can cope with pretty much anything that's being thrown at you, without abusing the system.

If you don't think you're going to enjoy, don't play it. I'm just a dude who played Oblivion with OOO way too many times and can't imagine playing without it.

TBH that's what turned me off to OOO, particularly due to Amazons.

When I played on my old laptop it would come to a grinding halt as the entire (tiny!) room full of like 15 Amazons started slinging spells at me (I guess it didn't help I had other script-heavy mods running). By the time I had my new computer I ditched OOO for Maskar's. I miss the hand-placed loot too, among other things, but quite a few things rubbed me the wrong way.

So, I am assuming Amazons are not lore friendly? I have never heard of the them in Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim but have not played Arena or Daggerfall enough to know whether either of those might contain Amazons.

As for OOO and Maskars, I too opted for Maskars, primarily because of ease of installation. Maskars was the third or fourth mod I ever installed and as a brand new mod user trying to figure out all this stuff, OOO's installation instructions were intimidating, and I found all the versions confusing. Maskars on the other hand was easy to install.

Now, a couple years later, I have learned much and I'm sure I could easily install OOO if I wanted to, but I haven't found a need to change, plus Maskar has added a few features that I would miss too much, like how easily he makes it to adjust sneak damage bonuses and how he gives each weapon type unique features, like silver doing extra damage against undead and stopping vampires from regenerating health. Someday I may want to try OOO but I have enjoyed Maskars so much I haven't wanted to change. There are so many features and each is customizable in the ini.

You can use Maskar's + OOO... but I'd rather not honestly. And the ini is the main selling point for Maskar's for me. I can turn off whatever monsters I don't want, in addition to other things.

As for treasure hunts I did find http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/11847/? but the mod makes quite a few random edits. I had bad luck auto-cleaning it. I cleaned it up by hand a couple days ago. Have yet to see how that worked though. One of the containers is also set to respawn, so that needs to be fixed as well. If I was better with the CS I'd try and recreate http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/16831/? But sadly I'm only really proficient in TESedit. I always seem to forget the controls for the preview window. Then I'd have to worry about compatibility with better dungeons, and everything else that messes with dungeons... and if I wanted to do some of the cool potion effects he did I'd have to figure out scripting.. which all together make me feel like giving up before even starting.

Edit: As for 'Lore Friendliness' everything I see on UESP related to 'Amazon' is directed at the website. 'Amazons' gets a hit related to Cobl, and nothing else that I see.

There is absolutely nothing in previous lore that mentions Amazons in any way, but they could conceivably fit into the lore with a bit of tweaking.

Had the developers stuck to the PGE's version of Cyrodiil I could easily see them as something you'd see in Nibenay. Maybe outcasts from the many human tribes that inhabit the area. Morrowind had those women from one of the Ashlander Tribes that preyed on men for their "Snake Magic" or however it went.

As they are now, they stick out a bit too much for me to consider them "lore friendly." They just come out of nowhere; from what I know about them there's no attempt to integrate them into the existing world in a way that seems plausible.
