Tamriel Rebuilt and MGE XE Distant Land

Post » Sat Dec 06, 2014 4:48 am

I have an MGSO-based install of Morrowind and I am running Tamriel Rebuilt.

When I re-generate distant land with MGE XE to get TR, I noticed that I get anomalies in the distant land textures, and not just in TR areas. The worst I have found are with "terrain-rock_rm*", _wg, etc. in the "f" mesh folder. I have included a couple of pictures, but they do not do this justice. In motion it looks like a lava flow of garbled textures moving along the surface as you move towards / away. In fog, it looks almost like pools of water moving over the surface. I don't pretend that I know what I am talking about in these matters, but it looks like a texture with a bad alpha channel.

If I remove TR_Data.esm and TR_Mainland.esm from the distant land generation, the transition between distant land and up-close is silky smooth. (I still have TR_Data.esm and TR_Mainland.esm enabled in Wrye Mash, just exclude from distant land generation). Is there any solution to this type of issue? Would it be possible to merge the generated distant land from one generated without TR into one with TR?

I'm guessing my best bet is to use a non-tr distant land for times when I am not doing content related to TR, and switch to a full distant land generation when I am.

Any thoughts welcome, thanks!
