Lost film!

Halp! I seem to have lost memory as to a film someone suggested I watch, and I could definitely use some assistance if anyone recalls its name. The film, if I recall was NOT by Alfred hitchcock, but dealt with urban voyiurism in an older sort of black and white film form that seemed to draw a lot on Edward Hopper. It's got me stumped, and friend cannot remember either.

Ah ok. Is your description...

...mean that it is shot in black and white after most films are typically shot in color or was it made before 1959 when most films were shot in B&W?

This came to mind: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063093/

But your description is pretty vague.

Many film-noir movies have a similar premise, or use the "Rear Window" plot device in some way, so it could be a dozen different films.

I know, that's what makes this a difficult conundrum, and will probably be lost like so many of the other older films. ah well
