PC illiterate needs uninstall help

Post » Mon Dec 08, 2014 10:48 am

I installed Skyrim right after it came out, then kind of lost interest. What I want to do now is uninstall it completely and then re-install so I can start over with a clean slate. Last night I tried to install and got an error message. Which of course I didn't write down and don't remember! This morning I tried again and got a message that Steam was unavailable and to try again later.

That's when I thought that a complete uninstall and re-install would be the right way to go.

But because I'm not very computer savvy, I'd love for someone to tell me the best, most complete method of uninstalling ALL the parts of the game.

Sorry if this sounds too dumb for most of you, but hey.... I'm old! Us senior citizens need help!

Please??

To completely uninstall it, first delete local content through Steam. Then go to your My Documents\My Games folder and see if there is a Skyrim folder there. If there is, delete that folder - the uninstaller usually won't delete this folder itself (this will delete any save files you have as well; if you want to keep any saves you need to copy them somewhere else first - they're in the My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves folder, and have the file extension .ess).

Steam may have been temporarily down for some reason or other when you tried this before. If you get any more Steam unavailable messages, just be patient and try again in a few minutes.

1. In Steam, right-click Skyrim and select "Delete local content". If you downloaded Creation Kit (the editor for the game), go to Tools in the Steam Library and do the same for Creation Kit

2. Go to the place where you installed Steam (Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam, but it can be changed), and then to SteamApps\common\Skyrim and delete everything inside that folder.

3. Go to Documents\My Games\Skyrim and delete everything that's there. If you want to keep your saved games, do not delete the Saves folder.
