Daredevil (My "Eaten Alive" response)

Post » Tue Dec 09, 2014 10:16 am

Firstly, for those who hadn't heard. On Sun, Dec 7th (the other day), Discovery Channel was having this special ordeal about a guy who will allow himself to be eaten alive by an anaconda while recording it. Obviously, he was in a safety suit (to protect from the internal parts of the snake) and they were gonna get him out ASAP (or so I assume). However, they had to call quits on the stunt and get him out of there when only his face was in simply because the anaconda was squeezing too hard him (apparently the suit wasn't able to fully protect him like originally intended?).

Anyways, he's alright and such. However, since the stunt... People been giving him A LOT of slack, insults, etc for quitting the stunt early, instead of going with it. (He is kinda being laughed at for being a "chicken", basically).

So now you know that (assuming if you hadn't). I have two questions for you:

Firstly, your thoughts on this whole "Eaten Alive" ordeal?

Secondly, have you ever did a daredevil move simply because you were afraid of being picked on? OR/AND have you ever backed down from a daredevil move, knowing it isn't worth doing (despite the fact of knowing that you will be laughed at)?

~My Answers~

1. Simply put, he was an idiot for even thinking about doing this but I congratz him for at least calling quits early on, before it was too late.

2. I won't do anything that I know useless and dangerous to do. Though honestly, I don't think I've done many daredevil moves in the first place or at least in real life.

I guess I would be chicken to not have a pickup truck run over my head. The guy abandoned it because the snake's muscles were going to crush his bones.

It's entertainment. I don't really have an opinion about people insulting him for backing out. People do that...they have nothing better to do than find things to raaaaaaage about. I'd rather back out than be dead. If the people taunting him are so brave then they can try it themselves.

My critique of the stunt is that the whole thing sounds poorly-planned. Good engineers would have known that the suit wasn't sufficient before the poor snake was subjected to the attempt. Beyond that, I don't really have much of an opinion about it.

Well I would not insult him but I would certainly say that he should've done more research, I mean, the Sucuri (or Anaconda) does not kill its victim with its inner acids, It squeezes and then brake every bones of it so they could fit in inside her body, Then she sleeps for a looooong time. But about it's squeeze. It can bend steel, so...

My thoughts: TV is running out of ideas. And people will do anything to get on tv.

I'm more concerned about the snake's welfare, that they were going to try and make it eat the guy in what was meant to be a constriction-proof, acid-resistant suit. It seems a bit cruel for a publicity stunt.

How did they intend to get him back out? I'm not an expert on snakes, but I don't think eating him and then regurgitating would be completely safe and healthy for the anaconda - even if it could do it without crushing him first.

More likely than not, he knew it would never go further than that and just wanted to attract attention.

That had occurred to me as well. I can't imagine he could have been separated from the snake with both person and snake intact and uninjured. If they killed the snake they'd have animal rights people all over them, so I'll bet you're right, Rosveen. Either they never really intended for it to work, or the people involved are profoundly poor planners.

Discovery Channel needs to stop doing this 2 hours of build-up for less than 5 minutes of action.

The whole "Eaten Alive" idea is laughable. Whats the point, even if they succeeded?!

Public spectacle, I guess. People like that type of thing.

He should've brought buns with him...

But if the safety of the guy and the snake was their primary concern, I don't how the "experiment" could've been conducted without at least one of them being harmed.
