Do you believe in "evil"?

An odd and pensive question, but do yous believe in the notion of evil?
Is there such a thing and if so what constitutes it?

I believe when you theorize and philosophize you shouldn't call anyone evil, you always try to find the reason why some people act extremely maliciously.

However, in practical life, we must always assume that there are things that cannot be excused and must be punished accordingly. We can say that pedophiles cannot help their urges, but that still doesn't change the fact that they're dangers to society. Same goes for repeat violent offenders of any kind.

People can be "good" and/or "evil" pending on what goes on in their life.

Is 'evil' anything more than a subjective description by humans placed on characteristics they don't like? I would say evil exists, but is not an objective measure of anything. Evil is a concept that (as far as we know) is only taught by humans, and cannot be used to measure anything without bias.

If there is evil in this world, it lies within the hearts of mankind..

Evil surely exists, but not simply for the sake of being evil (as seen in games or movies)

Hatred, prejudice, wishing to harm others, looking down on others who are Different, seeing yourself as superior to anyone else.. these are evil acts that exist in the hearts of everyone in some form or another..

No. No human is evil for being evil, there's always understandable (does not mean "acceptable" nor "forgivable") motivations for their actions.

"Evil" is a perception, and perceptions are subjective.

Or maybe i'm just being naive? If so, don't correct me

Yes.

Evil: Pants

Good: No Pants

When you embrace this simple truth on life, it makes your life worlds easier knowing how definite the world is.

If you believe there is Good then you have to acknowledge that there is Evil.

There are certain people who are percieved as evil, such as Putin for example, BUT, evil is our concept of him, many see him as evil while many others do not, it's all down to what you are taught is good or evil when growing up.

P.s. not trying to start anything political, just using Putin as a relevant example

First define what you mean by evil

Any sort of religious or supernatural explanation then no I don't believe that

Still there are sane, rational people who make choices they know will have harmful effects on other people

Doesn't really matter if they are evil or not

No. I believe that what mankind calls evil is when a human succumbs to one of our many primitive instincts.
