More than likely the card is too new for the game to recognize. Does it launch? If so, set everything to High or Ultra and play on.

Although the other issue might be the system starts out in 2D but does not switch to 3D when launching the game. Either force the system to use the Nvidia card when plugged in under power options or force the system to run the game under the Nvidia in the Nvidia control panel.

Would any of this lead to a potential blue screen? the resolution might look really wierd since my screen is 1920x1080 and the games resolution is 1280x1040 (or something along those lines, not too sure on the whole resolution thing.) btw, it came with windows 8..dont know if that matters.

You should set the game resolution to your screen resolution, otherwise it will be fugly.

If your getting crashes, you may need to restrict the game to using two cores in the ini file. It is not required for everyone playing, but enough have to that it makes sense to try it.

But the game will launch under using all the cores, it just won't be stable.

I have a similar laptop but my GPU is a 750M, which is slightly better. You should be able to run Oblivion fine at max settings without mods. Start adding mods and you should still be able to run Oblivion pretty well, and you will probably hit the limits of the old 32 bit OBlivion engine before you hit the limits of your hardware. It is an 8 year old game so your laptop is way more horsepower than the game was designed for. I also run Oblivion on a desktop with a 780ti and it only runs marginally better than on the laptop with the same mod load order. Oblivion was not designed to run on a modern OS or processor and as a result, better hardware really does not help much. But I digress.

Oblivion generally cannot recognize any modern graphics card, so that's pretty normal. Just set your graphics settings manually either in the launcher or in the options menu in game (which will require a reboot). You should be able to run Oblivion just fine in 1980 by 1080. That's what I run it on using my Windows 8.1 Lenovo laptop (model y400).

Edit, sorry was also answering a thread in the NV section so I got some advice confused. You don't have to restrict this game to two cores, you actually have to enable it to use two cores. Pretty easy, just search for Oblivion Multi core tweaks to get the lines you need to change.

Here are the recommended Oblivion ini tweaks for multi-core processors. However, there is some dispute about whether these tweaks actually do anything or not.
