A level up question

Post » Wed Dec 24, 2014 1:40 pm

This is a question that is to technical for me. I have a character to whom leveling up is a once every real life week or two buisness, and he's only level 68. Is this normal? Said character has had 1203 skill level ups to reach level 68, and when a skill levels up it only raises the character level bar a splinter, hardly visiable. Am I just a newb whose never gotten this far or is something wrong? Thanks for the help.

The higher level you are the less your level up meter will increase when you increase a skill. Also, how much experience towards the level you get depends on how hight the increased skill is. Getting a skill increase in a skill that's on level 20 will give you much less experience than raising a skill that's on level 80.

I don't think there's anything wrong, but here are a couple things to keep in mind:

  • Level 68 is pretty high - you must have finished a bunch of quests (or at least played for many hours) to get there. Most people don't get that high
  • As your skills level, it takes more and more practice to keep them leveling. You can see this easily with Smithing or Alchemy. Creating an expensive jewel or a powerful potion at low skill levels (like between 15 and 20) bumps the skill up very quickly. The same expensive jewel or powerful potion at level 99 just moves the progress bar a little.

Hope this helps.

1. The higher your level, the more XP you need to level up.

2. Every time you level a skill, the skill level you achieve will be given to you as XP to your next character-level. That means if you increase a skill from 20 to 21, you will get 21 XP. If you increase it from 86 to 87, you will get 87 XP.

The details (including the exact formula) can be found here: http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveling

Ok thanks all. :icecream: I knew you needed more XP at high levels, but I was not aware that it was so dramatic. Thanks again.
