At which level do you pick up uniques ?

Hello !

There are unique items in Skyrim such as Spellbreaker, right ? I have concerns about those for which I couldn't find an answer on various forums.

-Do the stats of those items increase as you level up ?

-If there isn't, is there a way to upgrade them ?

-If there isn't, at which level would you recommend picking them up so that there are "maxed out" ? I heard the level cap is 81...

I play a pure warrior (sword and board) and I absolutely want Spellbreaker on the long run. I fear if I pick it up at lvl 10 it will svck when I'm 40.

Welcome to the forums!

The items are set to your level, when you first enter the cell it occupies. Sadly, they do not level with the player. The console versions have no way to alter that.

Artifacts like Spellbreaker have fixed stats, level doesn't matter.

There are however a few item that are leveled. Less than in Oblivion for comparison but still some. Their stats are based on player level when they are recieved or when payer enters the cell they are located for the first time.

In main game, all leveled items max out at level 46. In Dragonborn DLC some eveled items max out at level 60 I think.

Ahhh.. Indeed you are correct. I had forgotten that some, if not most, were fixed stats.

The vast majority of unique items aren't scaled to your level, and have the same stats at every level; the ones that don't (listed http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Leveled_Items) are mostly found in the Thieves Guild questline (or otherwise, random sidequests). There aren't that many, and with the exception of some Thieves Guild stuff they're pretty meager even at a high level. It honestly makes no sense why they're leveled at all in the first place.

The only leveled stuff in the Dragonborn DLC is the gear you find on the final boss.

But for the most part, you don't need to worry at all. Daedric artifacts and the rest of the best unique equipment doesn't scale to your level at all, including Spellbreaker.

As mentioned above, Spellbreaker's stats are fixed. There is a level requirement however of 10 or 12 to begin the quest - depends on the manner in which you get the quest. Details here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Only_Cure

In general, I'd say if there is a particular item or items that you really want, then do some research on the same UESP wiki site I linked above and, if the items are leveled, decide if you want to take the steps to gain the top level version. But just ignore the other items. I mean, if you are a sword and board user, why would you care about any 2h weapon for example. You can only use so many items. :D

Remember some items can be tempered, but others like Dawnbreaker can't ( which totally bites IMO). So even if they don't lvl with you, you can still temper them and make them a viable option at higher lvl's.

Welcome to the forums! http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg (It's sort of a tradition here)

but, i cant really help you with your question, I rarely have any characters higher then level 30, so i just grab whatever items come my way whenever they come my way.
